Anybody here have any experience with the tree cutters that mount on front of an ATV? DR has one and the video makes it look pretty slick as long as you don't charge head on into a cedar that's too big for it. They look to be faster than a tree shear on a skid steer and would no doubt be easier on fuel. I heard DR was looking into a model that mounted on the front of a sxs, but I can't find anything on them.

Thoughts? Experience? Let er rip!

Not sure what the DR one looks like, ours is two discs mounted to rub against each other to cut them off. Works just ok, constantly have to unplug it and clean it out.

An old guy out here built him a wedge outa heavy steel. Mounts to his tractor loader. Doesnt squeeze at all, just a soild wedge like spreading apart your first two fingers. He drives up in low til the tree he has picked out it tight in the wedge as close to the ground as possible. Then he uses the hydraulics like a wrecking bar and pulls the tree out of the ground. Works pretty good on juniper trees and best after a rain.

I havent used a DR tool so i am no help. What's new right? :D

Rain? Is that maybe another word for moisture? I've pretty much disremembered what in the world that is.

Now they recommend an ATV of at least 550 cc or bigger & 4wd is preferred....thoughts on brand & size? Decent Yammerhammer & Kawi dealer fairly close....ain't gonna buy new.

I saw a 4 wheeler that was used on one of those...not a pretty picture. I would stay away from them. just burn them out.

They used to sell something like that at Orchelens in Salina KS. Can't remember which of our customers bought one, but he lined up on a pretty good sized hedge tree. He end up with his head in the tree, and destroyed his 4 wheeler. Maybe for little cedars it would work, but I don't have guts enough to use it.
