Thousands Of Doctors Fired

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-- In the midst of major changes in health care, UnitedHealthCare has sent thousands of pink slips to Connecticut doctors.

Termination letters went to physicians caring for Medicare patients. Those letters were sent out to doctors caring for 'Medicare Advantage' patients. It's a plan, marketed to Seniors to provide additional services through UnitedHealthCare.

A mix of primary care and specialty doctors are affected by it. And it comes at a questionable time.

Open enrollment for Medicare starts next Tuesday, and it's still not clear at this time as to which doctors are still in the United network.

The Connecticut State Medical Society is fighting back. The biggest concern is patient access to healthcare.

"What the government is looking for is to manage better care by adding a patient centered medical home so that you have a doctor who is totally invested with taking care of every aspect of the patient and coordinating it. This is clearly not a patient centered decision," said Dr. Michael Saffir, President of CT State Medical Society.

Dr. Saffir says the State Medical Society is in contact with UnitedHealthcare. They are also asking doctors to call United to find out why they were terminated without cause as notified in the letter.

He recommends that Seniors affected by this should call the office of the HealthCare Advocate of Connecticut.

United Healthcare's spokesperson is sending News 8 a statement which has not yet been received

It was part of the obamacare plan they didn't want you to read..

steal from grannie and medicare to give to a no-load freeloader on medicaid.

'Medicare Advantage' patients.

Medicare advantage is one of those HMO like programs that supposedly cost to much according to liberals.. even when it has been shown to actually reduce medicare costs.

and was to be scrapped so liberals could steal the money and divert it to obamacare..

approximately 200 billion or so was just in scrapping this fairly popular plan.. yep if you eliminate the plan,.. all those on the plan would just stop going to the doctor/... NO they would keep going,. it would just cost them more and the taxpayers more.. so where is the savings..

Obamacare To Slash Hundreds Of Billions From Medicare Advantage Over Next 10 Years

Earlier this month, officials at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced that they’d increase payments in the market-based Medicare Advantage program by 3.3 percent next year. The CMS report is good news for seniors and taxpayers alike. But Medicare Advantage is not out of the woods yet. Obamacare is set to slash hundreds of billions from the program over the next 10 years.

That’s a mistake. Medicare Advantage delivers better care at lower cost than does conventional Medicare. The program should be expanded — not cut, as the president and his allies advocate.

Some 14 million seniors — more than a quarter of all beneficiaries — have enrolled in Medicare Advantage.

Under the terms of the program, beneficiaries choose from among several privately administered plans. Insurers compete for seniors’ business by offering plans with a variety of coverage levels and out-of-pocket costs. That competition drives down costs — and grants seniors access to services and benefits that they often cannot get through traditional Medicare.

CMS’s proposed cuts would have come on top of $202 billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage prescribed by Obamacare. Taken together, seniors would have been facing benefit cuts and cost increases of as much as $90 a month — or more than $1,000 a year.

By reversing course, CMS has apparently decided to let Obamacare slowly bleed Medicare Advantage to death.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that Medicare Advantage will have 4.8 million fewer participants in 2019 than it would have in the absence of Obamacare — thanks to the law’s cuts to the program.

Medicare Advantage can provide the same level of coverage as traditional Medicare for 87 cents on the dollar. You’d think that policymakers looking to rein in Medicare spending might want to expand such a cost-effective program.

most of the cuts were met with outrage.. but it made no difference to the liberals hell bent on shoving a unpopular bill through..

Obamacare mandates $716 billion in Medicare payment reductions from 2013 to 2022

The Medicare Trustees project that the lower Medicare payment rates would cause 15 percent of hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and home health agencies to become unprofitable by 2019, and this percentage would reach roughly 25 percent in 2030 and 40 percent by 2050.

In addition to the provider payment reductions, Obamacare significantly reduces payments to Medicare Advantage (MA) plans by an estimated $156 billion from 2013 to 2022.[4] About 27 percent of all Medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in MA plans.

When Obamacare was enacted in 2010, the Medicare Actuary projected that the impact of Obamacare’s cuts would be significant: “We estimate that in 2017, when the MA provisions will be fully phased in, enrollment in MA plans will be lower by about 50 percent (from its projected level of 14.8 million under the prior law to 7.4 million under the new law). Causing them to lose their current health plan and likely face increased out-of-pocket costs.

well if you are not yet convinced obama care is WRONG..

Higher Taxes

Obamacare will also cause seniors to pay higher taxes. The higher taxes on prescription drugs (effective in 2011) and medical devices (effective in 2013) will affect seniors especially, as they are more heavily dependent on those very products

what kind of person would try to lower costs on healthcare by raising a tax on prescription drugs?

the same one that would work to destroy a plan that saves them 13 cents on every medicare dollar spent..

heck why not just steal $716 billion from grannie? oh they did.. :? :???:

Friend of ours son is a pharmacist. His wife is something fairly high in the medical field. When we visited them in Washington this month, she had just gotten back from Maine.
She said a big hospital there just let 140 employees go and closed 3 wings of the hospital........all because of Obamacare................

I bet Tam could warn Americans about long line-ups, due to doctor shortages.

Doesn't take a math wizard to tell you that you cannot treat 30 million additional patients with the same number of doctors.

but that assumes that you still have the same number of doctors after obamacare is implemented.
