According to the CBO, those who made less than $44,300 in 2001 — 60% of the country — paid a paltry 3.3% of all income taxes. By 2005, almost all of them were excused from paying any income tax. They paid less than 1% of the income tax burden. Their share shrank even when taking into account the payroll tax. In 2001, the bottom 60% paid 16.3% of all taxes; by 2005 their share was down to 14.3%. All the while, this large group of voters made 25.8% of the nation’s income.

When you make almost 26% of the income and you pay only 0.6% of the income tax, that’s a good deal, courtesy of those who do pay income taxes. For the bottom 40%, the redistribution deal is even better. In 2001, these 43 million Americans, who earn less than $30,500, made 13.5% of the nation’s income but paid no income tax. Instead, they received checks from their taxpaying neighbors worth $16.3 billion. By 2005, those checks totaled $33.3 billion.

Another insightful post, Kolo. Just brimming with wit, intelligence, and insight.

Maybe you can explain to us where all the money Obama is spending is going to come from? Can you explain the effects paying back that money will have on the economy? Let's see if you can compose a post above the third grade level.

Great post, Kolo.

I thought it was one of my better quips!!!

Since this is a political chat room and not a grade school taunt room, would you care to address something political?

Why do you ridicule those who have the economic common sense to realize that spending has to come from borrowing and borrowing has to be paid back with interest? Are you aware that is how things work? Before you gave Maobama you blessings, did any of this cross your mind?

Fire up those printing presses. The inflation will be great for the young who will receive cost of living increases. The elderly will be toast.

Some of the people who are actually partaking in these tea parties is interesting. Many of them don't talk alot. They must be the ones walking lightly and toting big sticks.

On CNN this morning they pointed out that 8% of all Federal Income would go towards the Interest on the National debt.

Mind boggling.

I think many liberals and a few conservatives are missing the point..

it is not just about fed income taxes,.. or even taxes in general,.. or just about debt.

but a common lack of government leaderships ability to control spending and curtail all tax burden..

every tax be it property, sales, capital gains or use taxes are all increasing.. I paid more in property tax this year for the first time then in income tax.. and even with the so-called tax cuts, both were $ higher..

My water bill, went up.. 20% per quarter.. as the debt the public water utility incurred over the last 80+ years can no longer be differed.. so for every $1.00 worth of water I use,. the twenty 20 cent increase goes to pay for already used water by someone who got off cheap.. a tax on a tax.. it would be funny if it didn't cost so much... and that is on a service I agree with.. and we need to fund.. and I still have to maintain my wells, and pay for a schmuck to read the meter for my usage of my water..

the taxes are hitting all areas of our lives today for services we don't need and for a bloated government..

so to say we "poor people" should not be outraged.. why wait for the taxes just for the rich with over $250,000 to be lowered to $125,000,.. .oops that already happened..

But you have to give them credit for trying. Each and every time I want to pay for my fuel a half dozen of them are in line getting lotto tickets.

The Augusta, Maine Tea Party was well attended, I think there were 4 in the State today. I went from about 3:30-7pm. It was awesome to see that many people waking up, this was at Capital Park which is the land between the State House and the Kennebec River. There had to be at least 10 Gadsden flags flying, one of them was the one I purchased today.
