Todays Economy

Some of us felt with spring comming the economy would pick up in our area.. But not.. a different segment of people are getting hit now (at least in our area)
GM shut down our local Chevrolet dealership and they are selling used cars as of this week. GM sent all the lots new units back. Driving down town and seeing a bascially empty car lot is weird. The people I know that have worked in the dealership since high school are getting real nevous. A couple of them are in there 40s and have not worked anywhere else.
Restruants have closed. A man and his wife had worked in a local lumber yard and hardware store since high school branched out to lease space in that same business and had a successful Radio Shack and US Celluar business. Radio Shack and later US Celluar came in and took his fanchize away. I was in the store the week after he was shut down. The man and his wife will get no income at the end of this month. The lumber yard where he has worked his whole life had just let his replacment go and another lumber yard let another employee go this past month. School Superintendets are calling retired teachers to come and teach half time so they can let full time teachers go to save money for insurance and retirement payments. A local title agency is down to one (the owner)
I went into the office twice this week and no business at all. The owner strated walking to work. A local feed store is about to close. He claimed he used to keep cases of fly spray now only orders five cans at a time.
Our town is the county seat. Two real estate offices are closed. This time of the year school buses are usually are buzzing around with school activities not this year. Even the bus drivers are getting cut for their drivng time on the trips they do not go one.
When the ecomony started going down I worried about it but now I see people I have known for years out of work with out much warning. Even the established Wal Wart employees hours are cut way down.
But gas prices and fertlizer prices are heading up more just this week. They added $50 ton on fertlizer this week. One guy thinks he can play poker to support his family he just won a used pickup and several rolls of barb wire and fence posts.

This really should be in Political. Im sorry your town is facing what so many others are. As you said this has NEVER happened before no matter who the president has been....
I hope you are ready for your taxes to go up and more business to close or not hire.
Please get your garden going and put back what you can for your family its going to be a bumpy ride.
You are in my prayers

Ms Sage thank you but you do not need to pray for us. This is hitting everyone. I was making alist of people I knew the ecomony has hurt the past couple of weeks. I am sure its the same everywhere in the rural areas.
Our state cut public school teachers salery rebuirsment from 1500 to 5000 for teachers throuhout the state.
The strangest deal with people I know is a local tire shop that has been in the same family for two generations. The employees have been going to work and doing business but say the boss (owner quit coming to work)
They open the business sell and repair tires. But can not order any new inventory. They got there last pay check. I wonder if they are going to get their next paycheck. I hope the owner has a secreatry that handles. These guys are living every cent form paycheck to paycheck.

I've got a few trailers to build and glad to have them but I hire very little help last trailer I had about 5 hours of outside help. Basically putting on roof sheets and hanging axels.I can do both jobs by myself but are a bit complicated.

There's a chevy garage here they had dealerships in 4 local towns 30 to 60 miles apart only the original is open and it's in the biggest town. All the rest are closed up. Even the small repair shops here are all one to two man crews not much going on in them.

With scrap iron high I see alot of these people out picking iron or cutting and selling firewood. I know things are better at our house this year than last but we keep working. We also are'nt spending on much other than payments and repairs nothing new to speak of unless it's really needed.
