We didn't get a tornado, OT, but we got a lot of rain.
One to three inches in Fallon and Carter Counties, depending
on where you were.

Did you hear about Lame Deer? It is under 3 to 4 feet of water.
We don't get local news on tv, so I haven't seen what it looks
like, or even IF it was covered by the news.

Here we are with all this rain while Florida is in really tough shape.

I haven't seen anything on TV about Lame Deer either- just heard on the radio it was flooded...
I know the railroad tracks are washed out between Miles and Forsyth in a couple places- one place they had a 39 car derailment...BNSF was shuffling equipment all over the area to repair track.....

So far around here nothing too bad...

Heres the Billings area flooding:

Old Custer probably wishs the Little Big Horn would have been that high in June 1876

We have friends who are also fellow Red Angus breeders at Lodge Grass. I sure hope they are safe and ok.

They have a beautiful ranch west/southeast of Lodge Grass. That sure looks like GREAT cow country to me. Good grass, lots of draws and good water.

Cheers---

TTB

Heres the latest on the flooding and some more pictures...They closed the interstate between Hardin and Sheridan Wyo because of water over the hiway, as the surge of water moved downstream-- this morning the Hiway Dept. web shows it still closed...

Thanks for the link, OT.

And TTB, that Lodge Grass country is some of the best cow
country in the WORLD. And the country around Rotten Grass
is the best of the best, we have been told.

Mr. FH thinks heaven can't be much better than the country
around Parkman, Wyoming which is the same country only
on the Wyoming side. Usually that country gets rain when no
one else does. Even it got dry in this latest 8-10 year drought
we had though.

Sure sorry about the flooding, but this whole country looks
absolutely fantastic.

Weather boys say we have another front moving in that could give us some more unstable weather- and 2-3 days of thunderstorms and showers- starting this afternoon...

I was going to go north again today and do a little fencing and recreating in the sun- but think maybe I should get some stuff moved around in the corrals instead since I think it is finally dry enough to get around in there to move some feeders and stuff- before the next wet event shows up....

My 85 year old uncle rode with me on one trip to the pasture yesterday- and he said he's not sure if he's ever seen this country look better...The native grass that I thought was completely killed out because of the drought and the grazing pressure is back heavier than ever- June grass everywhere a foot + high, headed out and waving in the wind.....Calves lay down and you can't even see them in the grass...
Thats different for around here...

An old Mexican cowboy Tony Garci told my dad that when he came to this country with the trail herds- the grass was belly deep on a horse everywhere up our creek-- I'm starting to believe he wasn't exaggerating...

I did find out one drawback to the tall grass-- sure hides those big rocks that used to stand out easily

Well its about time we got a break in the weather,I know for a fact if this year was as dry as the last 7 or 8 ,I was hauling the cattle to the sale barn and wait it out, just got tired of fighting to barely get by.
But what a differnce a year makes, some folks are talkin about restocking, the smart ones are watching and waiting, let the pastures recover at least a year.
I got some cane to cut so watching the weather close, never like to cut the cane grasses in June, weather is apt to do anything, bermudas are ok if they get showered on,pretty easy to fluff em with a rake, but if you get a heavy crop of cane wet,it can turn dark and get slimy pretty fast.......................good luck
PS When do you reckon yall will start your baleing this year ?

Some of the alfalfa is about ready to cut-- but the fields are still too wet to get in and start...Swathers ready to go.....

Since I have mostly grass/alfalfa mixed fields we usually don't start until after the 4th of July- let the grass thicken up a little more (especially with this much moisture) and much less chance of it getting ruined by rain or blowed away in a Thunderstorm....Around here our chances for moisture drop quite abit about the 20th of June-- and then drop again after the 4th... The 4th is historically known for a good chance at blowing in a wicked thunderstorm to make the rodeos and street dances interesting...

But this year if it drys up we may try some of the straight alfalfa fields earlier...

Sure glad I put off temptation and didn't start cutting-- even tho several of the neighbors did yesterday- cousin swathed down about 100 acres of alfalfa....But during the night a thunderstorm rolled thru-- dropped .3 and is still raining.....Ground was already so wet that the swaths had to be turned- now the hay is going to be awful damp too

If it quits raining early enough, I'll take my fence crew (granddaughter, her buddy, and grandson) and go work on some more fence....I have several miles of fenceline, I'm trying to go around and put stays between all the posts--and I don't want to waste the good crew I have now...Gabe drives the 4 wheeler carrying the stays- Leinie and her buddy Augie help me put in stays- and we can cover some ground- put in a couple miles in a couple hours yesterday afternoon....
