This is a shot of Downtown Huntsville. All these buildings are stucco'd. About ten years ago, they had a downtown beautification deal goin on, and all of them were painted to look like brick. All of it is paint....none of it's real. You can't tell until you are on the sidewalk walkin down it, right next to the buildings. It's pretty cool.

It's to bad they don't hold the rodeo's anymore,,,cause wasn't Huntsville well known for it at one time? I think I watch something on t.v. once about prison rodeo's and they had good stock. Does the prison still have a horse program there? Cool pictures Lilly,,,Hope Mr. Lilly has a safe job there. Gee you got to go out and eat too! Lucky

Yes they usta have a really neat rodeo, from what I've heard. It started in 1931 and lasted thru 1986.

Yes they do still have a horse program. They breed, raise and train all of their own horses. One whole facility is dedicated to the horse breeding. We got to tour it when I was a 4H leader. Pretty impressive. Inmates break and train the horses, for the bosses to ride, and also for the dog patrol guys. They also have a few inmates that ride fence every day. Horses are sent to all the prisons that still have cattle, and they get to be ranch horses. They've had two sales in the last 10 years or so. Both times the horses brought way more money than they should have, just because they are branded with the Texas Star on their front shoulder. Alot of them "bosses" horses....that just basically sit on em all day and watch the inmates in the fields....they aint good for nothin much else....lazy horses LOL

Thank you, Lily, Quite an unusual tour for Ranchersnet! Can you imagine painting each of those fascade bricks? What a job that was.

Thanks for the tour. I am a correctional officer for the Oklahoma DOC. The facility I work is a drug offender work camp. However our "sister facility" about 40 miles away has a horse program. They train BLM horses and have a adoption and sale every year. Oklahoma still has a prison rodeo every year. Have not got to go because I always have to work, hoping to make it this August though.
