Trailing cattle home on a cold morning

Having fed the last of my neighbor's hay in his meadows yesterday, we needed to bring this bunch of cows home. It was ten below zero when we walked out the door this morning, and it didn't seem to warm up too fast.

Peach Blossom led with the feed truck, while Saddletramp and I were horseback and rode drag.

Saddletramp shuts the gate. If you scroll fast, it will look like a movie. :)

Now that he is back in the saddle, we both can get back to work.   :)

I must be growing older--it wasn't even tempting to lick the bridge railing.

Glad we are not the only ones dealing with low temperatures. How far did you have to take the cows Soap?

It was only about five miles to where we left them and fed them. It was cold enough that we got off our horses and did a bit of walking to keep our feet warm. After we got them to the gravel road, they followed the road quite well. They didn't even stall out at the bridge, with the feed truck in the lead. There was very little wind, which made conditions much better than it could have been. I am glad we did it today instead of in the high wind yesterday morning.

If you had licked the rail, and Saddletramp hadn't been with you, it may have been hard to convey your message to your son or Peach Blossom over the phone of the predicament you were in!!!

Great pictures as usual, thank you.

I really enjoyed the trail ride, Soapweed! Seemed to be a little warmer by my desk than what it looks like there. We had 11 below this morning but had glorious sunshine all day as well with little wind, however, being out in that all day, it does tend to chill a person. Thanks for the photos and the narration :D

Glad your trail ride went well...we also had to move cows about 5 miles today,,but we waited till after dinner...at least the higher temp fooled our brains into thinking it was warmer..lol

Why didn't you post pictures of loading panels too? :)

Seems to me it would have been a fridgid day for moving cows. I got chilled just pumping gas in my commuter vehicle. :?
