My youngest daughter Emily and I had a good hunt tonight-Shauna doesn't get home till about 5'30 with my truck so we got to our spot with deer already out grazing-we headed into a southwest wind with deerto the north, south and west of us-about a 1/4 mile of open ground to get to a draw-we knew we'd bust some deer but we had no choice. I wanted us to get to the draw as I thought the bucks might travel either side of it. Wasn't very long before does started working north to the east and west of us-we had perfect wind for the west but terrible for the east. Of course a group of about a dozen moved about thirty yards from us and crossed our scent-one old doe put on the snort-stomp show for ten or fifteen minutes-Emily did a good job of holding her ground and they were about to drift on but a grouse decided to fly up into a tree and booger them. All that commotion caused the bucks to come out late-we were exactly where we needed to be but when the shooter came by at about 35 yards it was past legal time-it was neat watching him wander along. I was going to post a couple pics but some lurkers might recognize our honeyhole-Ty got home from work tonight so Ems gets to hunt with her favorite guide in the A'M.
