Sycophant has a well known meaning sorta like a "yes man" or a cheerleader or an "a** kisser". There's a lot of that that goes on in PB. One person says something and the others fawn on them.

The same could be said of the last Presidential election!

When they resort to silly insults and wild claims and exaggerations, they lose any audience they might have except sycophants.

yep... why resort to silly insults and wild claims... such as calling any one who agrees with a conservative a "sycophants"

am I the only one that saw the irony of the comment?

The sycophants didn't even understand this remark

You think for yourself and don't cheerlead. But you don't seems to see the cheerleading right in front of you due to your own biases.

well Reader2.... yes.. after reading your answer... I do sees it,.. really I do... I just don't always responds to it...

and yes, I am biased.. who isn't... but the paradox you presented leaves me with no option.. if I agree and say so.. I'm an @$$kisser... if I just chuckle, and mind my own business,..then it's "I don't see what is in front of my nose.. and am biased"...

when I see it (cheerleading) and don't add in agreement,.. I get accused of "" But you don't seems to see the cheerleading right in front of you due to your own biases.""

yet if I chirp in in agreement.. I would get called a name.. oh well,.. since I can't join a bunch of whiney liberals.. who are never happy...

so for everyone who has defended conservativeism... G R E A T W O R K

for all you liberals who don't have enough to do G E T A J O B !

hope that covers it all.... ( insert S A R C A S M emoticon here)

Reader you should be ashamed of your self. If Jigs ,Mike or Sandhusker had said this Mrs Greg would be chastising them. Just because you use big words doesn't mean you get a free pass.

" The Oxford English Dictionary, however, states that this explanation, though common, and suggests that it may refer instead to the insulting gesture of "making a fig" or to an obscene alternate meaning for "fig", namely sykon, which means c*nt.[1]"
In my world sycophant means suck-up.

Big difference from a man calling a woman a C&^% compared to reader calling you suck-ups to the neo-cons a sycophant...

Like I told Aplus...run the C word past Tam,see where U sleep tonite.

Well we don't all live in your world Mrs. Greg. if you bother to look up the word it shows this

sycophant   /ˈsɪkəfənt, -ˌfænt, ˈsaɪkə-/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [sik-uh-fuhnt, -fant, sahy-kuh-] Show IPA
–noun a self-seeking, servile flatterer; fawning parasite.

Now if Mr Greg were to call you a fawning parasite where would he be sleeping?

If some of the guys on here called Reader a sycophant I have to wonder if you would be defending them.

A big BS Tam. Normal people do not run to the etymological dictionary and look up an obscure obscene GREEK meaning of a common English word

Most normal people do not use words like sycophant in the first place. Only those elitist wannabes that think big words make them look more important than the average Jo! A good communicator uses words that paint a picture they are wanting painted, not words that are a futile attempt to make them look smarter than they really are!

And again, I'm sorry that your ego is so easily bruised that you have to comment on my IQ which you have no insight into. Poor little guy! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

He's learning from his environment, isn't he Reader?

I don't think you're going to convince the majority here, that you don't do the exact same thing!

Well I am not very well versed on Vulgar Greek words. I figured I had better brush up if i am going to be cussed in a foreign language.

I don't mind Reader using her big words i use it as an opportunity to expand my vocabulary. Nothing else she say does much for my education. :p

Where does the term YADDA YADDA YADDA come from?

An honest person will always admit to being ignorant on some issues.

Others will be ignorant and call it bragging!

OT there is a difference between admitting my ignorance and being ignorant. Do you know what I mean or do you want me to explain it?

I would say it fits ALL of us, some of the time. That's why a statement like that makes Reader such a hypocrite!

Actually I have a lot of insight into the person you are, the way a person talks or rights to strangers is an open window into the soul of that person. The words you use, the friends you brag of and the arrogance you display makes anyone that took Psychology 101 more than capable at having insight into the insecurities you obviously have!
