Hubby and I hauled our calves to town today.. First load was the hiefers and we got along just fine.. Drove by the scale along the highway and of course it was closed early in the morning. Hubby said that we should not go this way on the second load because it would be just our luck for it to be open... So we cruise back home and load the steers.. Eight in front 28 on the bottom and 28 on top with 8 on the back... No big crisis just ma and pa loading taking our time.. Anyways we get to truckin and down the road we go and we forget to turn off to miss the scale on the highway.. Sure enough their open so we pull in and ease across the scale and the little officer guy comes out and says you are overweight(like we didn't all ready know that.) But he says we are not as bad as the truck in front of us... Hubby smiles and says do you suppose that is my cousin? Sure enough it is and he is 3000 pounds over. I say would it help for me to get out and hubby says ya that might help. So I bail out. The officer says that if we shift some cattle to the back we might be able to scale out.. So we back up off the scale and we procede to try and get the steers to the back.. Hubby is inside the cattle pot trying to get enough to the back that we can close the gate to keep them towards the back. I'm swinging off the side of the pot like a monkey trying to get them to the back... Okay we get that job done pull back on the scale..... By this time four trucks have pulled through and we know them all.. The other trucks just smile at us and wave.... One of our neighbors pull through and ask me if we are having any fun and I say well not really... So he does the hancuff act towards me and drives off.. We pull the truck back on the scale...... Nope more weight in the back.... So we back off and hubby climbs to the top and crawls in again... Again I swing off the side of the pot and we work on getting some of the steers to the back so we can gate them... Done deal..... We pull back on the scale.. Yup we didn it..... I give the officer and cowsh** hand high five and we blow out of there... Was an interesting trip to the auction barn to unload.
