Wondering about this because Shulkin is currently the Veterans Administration’s undersecretary for health, a position making him leader of the nation’s largest integrated health system. He was nominated to the post by President Barack Obama in 2015. Prior to his appointment he served as CEO of New York’s Beth Israel Medical Center.

Since VA is in such a wreck why would Trump nominate someone who is/was part of the wreck?

Sometimes those in secondary positions have a unique prospective, one in which they can already see the problem but can't get the leadership to fully address. I did some research and as a patient and very PRO VA supporter I would give him a chance..

one of the many articles on his views. http://www.militarytimes.com/story/military/benefits/veterans/2015/05/05/veterans-affairs-shulkin-health/26934989/

An insight into his thinking. https://about.bgov.com/blog/how-vas-million-veteran-program-is-supporting-the-precision-medicine-movement/

on a final note, not all the VA is a complete train wreck, I get excellent care at the Delaware VA and had an excellent experience at the Pittsburgh VA for a surgery. Some hospitals and clinics are cars off the tracks, and the VA needs doctors. (one of my doctors (a specialist) died or quit, and they can not find a replacement, so I am getting contracted out services.) not ideal but with the new Veteran's Choice program the wait times are getting addressed.

You can't run a hospital system without doctors and staff and vacancy rates are high..

Now think about that, the Democrat want the US to be one large VA system where there is no place to contract out to and there are no doctors willing to do the job for what the Government is willing to pay. Believe me when I say Government healthcare is NOT all it is cracked up to be unless you don't mind LONG wait times for surgeries that your doctor tells you you need ASAP. I'd even say if you walked into a doctors office and said you were paying out of pocket your bill would be less than if you told them you have insurance, as who really cares if the faceless Insurance company has to pay a bit more RIGHT. Well the Government is no different the cost of healthcare will NOT go down if the government is paying the bill. NO you as a taxpayer are paying the bill with endless tax hikes and tax on everything you do. I don't know what the answer is to fix the US system but I'm sure most of us could come up with a few good ideas but if you like your doctor then don't let the government get between him/her and you.

BTW If you ask me Obamacare was designed to do exactly what it did, last just long enough to get 20 to 30 million on it and then implode so the Dems could come in and convince everyone that those 20 to 30 million can not be left without access to healthcare so they will fix the problem of the sky rocketing premiums and un believe high deductibles by going to a SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM. That is what they wanted but knew they could not take that leap until the US tax payers were on their knees pleading for some relief. After the historical win they had in 2008 winning both houses and the Presidency that gave them the power to push this behemoth piece of crap through on a partisan vote. They never dreamt they would have the voters turn against them in such a stunning way and they would loose both houses and the Presidency before they could carry out the rest of their evil plan. Nope Harry Reid figured the Dems would control the Senate forever that is why he changed the rules so he could do as he damn well wanted without a single vote from the opposition. Well their little plan is now being dismantled piece by piece and there is nothing the Dems can do but stand back and b*tch about how 20 to 30 million will be without healthcare and Trump is going to MAKE AMERICA SICK AGAIN. Really does anyone believe those 20 to 30 million are better off now when Doctors are refusing to tend to Obamacare patients and even if they can find a doctor they can't afford the deducible to go get care. This mess needs to be fixed ASAP it might hurt to rip the bandaid off but it needs to be done as the infection is eating away at the system and there is no time to loose before the whole system will die a painful death.

Our young DR. friend who is now in her residency said that if Hillary was elected, she would have to go to New Zealand or Australia in order to make enough money to pay her student loans.

What is surprising, way over 90% of young med students she knows.......are liberals........have rich parents and don't have a clue.

No clue is right. But like most college kids these days, they don't have a clue that saddling themselves with hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt is going to be a problem. A very real problem with a very real bill coming every month to pay.

They don't have a clue how to live like they are poor. And when they get the checks coming in that should be sufficient to live on and pay normal loan amounts back, they can't make it all work because they expect to have a standard of living at certain level. But it doesn't jive with their loan amounts.

I've seen it over and over. Instead of working a part time job on the weekends, they just mess around and go to the bars spending money they don't have. Time they could have been working and money they could have been saving- actually, money they could have not been borrowing.

Instead of working during the summer, many again are just messing around. Do that for 8 to 10 years and you're going to have a pretty big bill at the end. If mommy and daddy can afford it, go for it.

Schools are getting ridiculously priced. Don't get me wrong on that. But it's not just the schools. It's a cavalier attitude toward debt.

Like everything else, Obamacare would have been wildly successful if the democraps had just gotten their message out better.

http://legalinsurrection.com/2017/01/pelosis-obamacare-regret-we-needed-better-messaging/?utm_content=bufferb70d7&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Nancy Pelosi cannot think of a single part of the Affordable Care Act that has underperformed her expectations.

Not the lack of competition in the marketplaces that has worried President Obama — or the double-digit rate hikes this past fall. Nothing.

“I can’t think of anything like that,” the House minority leader said about 40 minutes into an interview this week, when I asked her to name a part of the health law that had gone worse than expected.

Her only regret about the law? That other Democrats didn’t step up to the plate to defend it — leading to what she called a sea of misinformation about her signature legislative achievement.

“If I had to fault myself, I would say I should not have trusted that other people were going to be the message piece while we were doing policy. We were in the foxhole; we were in the trenches fighting the fight,” she said.

It’s actually quite stunning that after the party’s historic losses over the past eight years, the House minority leader is still blaming messaging for the failure of ObamaCare.

This is the same “messaging problem” that prompted Obama to hit the road bolstering this monstrosity, promising again and again that “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan,” “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” and the “typical” American family will save $2,500 per year.
