STANDOFF IN NASHVILLE - RAND PAUL IS DETAINED BY TSA - There are varying reports coming out now, but it appears as if Sen. Rand Paul has been detained by TSA after setting off an alarm. His COS states, "the Senator "was detained by the TSA after their scanner had an 'anomaly' on the first scan. He offered to go through again," Stafford said in an email. "The TSA said he could only have a full body pat down. He would not consent to it." The TSA meanwhile said he, "was not detained at any point" but "triggered an alarm during routine airport screening and refused to complete the screening process in order to resolve the issue. Passengers, as in this case, who refuse to comply with security procedures are denied access to the secure gate area," the TSA adds. "He was escorted out of the screening area by local law enforcement." Stay tuned.

The White House, through spokesman Jay Carney, defended the TSA's actions during Monday's press briefing by arguing that Paul wasn't technically "detained."

"For an hour and a half, they said 'absolutely, I would have to [accept a pat-down],'" Paul said. "And, because I used my cell phone, they told me I would have to do a full body pat down because you're not allowed to use your cell phone when you're being detained."

I am glad Rand is sticking up for the average American,.. but if it was an average American and not a senator.. they would be in jail right now...
