I want to share some TV and Interent purebred sales experiences this year.
First I have not been a very serious bidder at these. The last one on TV the pictures were right on what one could here over the phone however the operator at the sale said your bids will be a seven second delay. We all know how much rolling rafter bidding can be done in seven seconds. So one bid was all I did. I thought it was neat some of the rolling did not even stay with the normal bid breakdowns. I bid on three head in diferent spots in the sale. First rolling were 500 then to 1000 and 1500 bid.
Towards the end of the sale the rolling was in 750 dollar bids back to me.
When the ring operator found out I was not going to be rolled they wanted me off the phone right now. I am sure the bull sale owner had his bulls floored higher than the bids they were just rolling to get someone to bid to the floor for than pen of bulls.
Watching these at home it is so easy to see how they get biiders confused, wear them out till they buy something at the price they want.
The old tricks of auctions are so easy to see when one is not caught up in the emotion of being at the sale. I think those top sellers are bulls they want to keep and use themselves and ofcourse the funny money trading between breeders. You buy one for big money and my sale and I will buy one at yours next week, The bulls may never leave the place.
Its interesting that a string of bulls will be going out for about the same price then all of a sudden here one that doubles the price themn they go back to the same price for a while.
I think the old trick of give a sale book, sale order, ultrasound sheet fast dancing ringmen and speedy the auctioneer are readly seen over the TV and interent. Just to confuse the bidder.
I have came to the conclusion that all the hoopla is just to get the bottom end of the sale to sell much more than they are worth. Get the bidder confused and sell him something and make him feel happy till he write the check.
I keep reminding myself the auctioneer, sales managers and TV and interent servies are hired to get the most money for that sale that day and they do there job. The next sale they do it all over again,The problem deals with the owner what he wants out of his bulls and how many bulls he had in the bottom end his is trying to move out the door.
I have bought way to many individual cattle over the years at sales (my personal problem) however only a couple of ranches really do folow up on the cattle. Most just get the money and run.... and will not even speak to you next time they see you. But in the sale book and at the auction they are the most nicest breeders of all times. lol When they get that check in hand that sure changes there personality.
What are other experiences.
