Twins

Last year we had five pairs of twins from our 52 cows. Only one pair came alive.

So far this year, we have had 4 cows calve since Friday and today 2 cows had twins, all alive and sucking. 6 for 4, man, that is just weird. Must be the water . . .

I'm sure glad we're done having kids!

Twins don't seem to be as prevalent down here, as they are up there.

We had one cow (Mom's milk cow that was a regular horse's patoot) that had twins twice (bull calves the first time, bull and heifer the second) and a neighbor that had a cow that had twins once.

Other than that, I never heard of anyone having twins.

So it must be something in your water...........

It's also a Charolais and Simmental trait. Maybe we have more of those up here?

So far we've had twelve sets out of 168. Twenty three of the twenty four calves are still with us, but three have been fostered out. Three more are in the shed on the bottle because Mama didn't like them best. :? :?

That's not all bad news. ... the proceeds from the three go straight to the person who carts the milk out twice a day. 8)   Mama wants a new quad! :D

Another thing that can affect this is Corn feed.,...My vet told me that corn smut can actually stimulate some hormones that will cause a cow to cycle more eggs...I think the North South is bree differences tho,
