I still like twins - - - but where I live we can keep a cow calf pair on just over an acre of ground. The cows can take care of the twins with little help and they really grow well.

I have a small enough herd I can give individual attention and I move all cows that have calved away from the rest of the herd and it is normal for the calves to just share cows. This lets the twins get a little extra. I have the hiefer and her twins in a three acre lot with a 12 year old cow that calved the same day and the hiefer calf of the twins goes back and forth. The little bull is staying with his mom.

I will keep them in the lot for about a week and then turn them with the other cows that already have calves.

When the vet preg tested in December she assured me all my cows would calve in April this year - - - I still have 10 to go. I'll turn the bulls in about the 20th of June and hope some of them move up. But then I turned in the 25th of June last year - - - The best laid plans of mice and men!!

Not to tell you your business but if you are feeding like you say you do maybe those cows were to fat and did'nt cycle.

Ever see a fat woman at wallmart 1 kid.

Skinny little gal with 3 or 4 kids.

I have never had to feed this heavy till I got the Charolis - - - and they are not fat even with the feed - - - now my horses are a little different, If they are not working someone needs to lock up their feed as I tend to get them tooooo fat.

When a vet preg checks how do they determine how far along the calf is ??? If it is by size could she have been fooled??? We had a very hot July last year and I feel the bulls did not get the job done - - - possibly the cows did not cycle then. I was also having problems with fescue pasture till FH cluded me in on the special mineral for fescue.

Thinking back she ask me when the bulls were turned in before she started and kept looking at the printout I had as to when they had calved befor stating a due date. The late calves are all on the cows I bought and was trying to move up a month - - - maybe that is why I got them so cheap. I will still turn the bulls in the last week of June and see if I can get them up a few days. Several of them are old enough to ship this year and I have several great Angus hiefers ti breed this year so it will work out.
