UNITED STATES: Tyson president and CEO, Richard Bond, has been elected chairman of the American Meat Institute.



Richard Bond, president and chief executive officer of Springdale, Ark-headquartered poultry, beef, and pork processing giant Tyson Foods, has been elected chairman of the American Meat Institute (AMI).



Bond succeeds Robert “Bo” Manly, executive vice president of Smithfield Foods Inc. Manly became immediate past chairman of AMI. Also, the AMI membership re-elected J. Patrick Boyle to serve an eighteenth year as the Institute’s president and chief executive officer. David Miniat, president of Ed Miniat, Inc, was elected vice chairman and Rod Brenneman, president and chief executive officer of Seaboard Foods, was elected treasurer.



The announcements came during AMI’s Annual Business Meeting, which was held during the AMI’s Innovation Showcase, last week in Hollywood, Fla.



Bond joined meat processor IBP Inc. in 1980 as an administrative assistant and held management positions including president of IBP’s Fresh Meats Division, vice president of boxed-beef sales and group vice president of beef sales and marketing. He was appointed an IBP president and named a director in 1995 and became chief operating officer in 1997. After Tyson Foods’ acquisition of IBP in 2001, Bond became co-chief operating officer of Tyson Foods Inc. and was named president and chief operating officer in 2003. A native of New Jersey, Bond holds a degree in business administration from Elizabethtown College of Pennsylvania. He worked for several other food companies before joining IBP.
