U.S. Spies On The Pope?

Just when you thought the world couldn't hate us anymore....................

US secret services allegedly eavesdropped on cardinals before the conclave in March to elect a new pope, Italian weekly magazine Panorama claimed Wednesday.
"The National Security Agency wiretapped the pope," the magazine said, accusing the United States of listening in to telephone calls to and from the Vatican, including the accommodation housing cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio before he was elected Pope Francis.
The allegations follow a report on surveillance website Cryptome which said the United States intercepted 46 million telephone calls in Italy in December 2012 and early January 2013.
Among those, “there are apparently also calls from and to the Vatican,” Panorama said.
"It is feared that the great American ear continued to tap prelates’ conversations up to the eve of the conclave," it said, adding that there were "suspicions that the conversations of the future pope may have been monitored".

Just in case you thought the world didn’t hate the United States enough when Bush was President, Obama is doing his best to blight drive our reputation into the dirt.

What would be the response if another country monitored all cell phone calls in the U.S.?

Think about it. :!:

Drones? Sanctions? Bombs? Declaration of war?

What ever happened to respect? When did it suddenly become OK for America to just ignore the sovereignty of other nations just because it can be done? When was the line crossed between protecting national security and invading the security of allies?

The fine line between national security and paranoia has been crossed, and it's not doing anything to help keep friends in this world.

This is not just spying on a country. There are 1.2 billion Catholics in the world, and I'm sure they are all upset about this one. Spy on the Pope? That's low. Very low. And should be cause for embarrassment.

I realize we don't agree on much,.. but on this I have to whole heartily agree with you..

I really don't care or worry if they spy on me... I lead a fairly boring life so it would at least give the spy guy a nap... and other then going to slow in the fast lane or some minor crap I don't do much I would worry about if someone watched..

but I care about the precedence it sets.. our current administration would shock the Nixon crew.. not only is it wrong.. it is a waste of time and resources..

We need to focus on those who can and will harm US.. and stop snooping on the lives, closets and bedrooms of our friends..

That is who would harm this federal power grab.

So if you belonged to a radical faction that wanted to wage war on the west and had control of the most powerful spying agencies in the world, what would you do? Spy on yourself (islam) or your adversaries?

The brotherhood now has some serious knowledge on the us and our allies, what are they going to do with it?

The foxes are in the hen house, and you have to keep that in mind while reading every news article.

I guess that is why so many are looking towards Rand Paul for leadership to break this cycle of federal intrusion into all aspects of everyone's lives..

Wonder what kind of dirty laundry is about to be spilled on the Catholic church? Or what information has already been used?

We live in the information age, this intrusion is worse than having your bank account hacked.
