Understanding the stimulus bill

Shortly after class, an economics student approaches his economics professor and says, "I don't understand this stimulus bill. Can you explain it to me?"
The professor replied, "I don't have any time to explain it at my office, but if you come over to my house on Saturday and help me with my weekend project, I'll be
glad to explain it to you." The student agreed.

At the agreed-upon time, the student showed up at the professor's house. The professor stated that the weekend project involved his backyard pool.

They both went out back to the pool, and the professor handed the student a bucket. Demonstrating with his own bucket, the professor said, "First, go over to the deep end, and fill your bucket with as much water as you can." The student did as he was instructed.

The professor then continued, "Follow me over to the shallow end, and then dump all the water from your bucket into it." The student was naturally confused, but did
as he was told.

The professor then explained they were going to do this many more times, and began walking back to the deep end of the pool.

The confused student asked, "Excuse me, but why are we doing this?"

The professor matter-of-factly stated that he was trying to make the shallow end much deeper.

The student didn't think the economics professor was serious, but figured that he would find out the real story soon enough.

However, after the 6th trip between the shallow end and the deep end, the student began to become worried that his e conomics professor had gone mad. The student finally replied, "All we're doing is wasting valuable time and effort on unproductive pursuits. Even worse, when this process is all over, everything will be at the same level it was before, so all you'll really have accomplished is the destruction of what could have been truly productive action!"

The professor put down his bucket and replied with a smile, "Congratulations. You now understand the stimulus bill."

Yeah, but,

1.) We invaded the wrong country.

2.) George Bush sucks.

3.) This is, by far, the worst economic catastrophe since the Great Depression (especially if you don't actually look at the facts) and Obama says that we must do something, and very soon!!

4.) The sky is, in general, falling.

5.) Welfare has worked so wonderfully in the past.

Can you liberals do any better than these?

So you're saying GW was lying to us again :???:

"Our entire economy is in danger," Bush said, urging Congress to take quick action and outlining his rationale for the bailout.

Failing to pass a rescue plan, Bush said, would create the risk of a "long and painful recession" -- meaning more foreclosures, lost jobs, declining home values, business failures, stock losses and difficulty getting loans.

"I'm a strong believer in free enterprise, so my natural instinct is to avoid government intervention," Bush said. "I believe companies that make bad decisions should be allowed to go out of business. Under normal circumstances, I would have followed this course.

"But these are not normal circumstances," he added. "The market is not functioning properly. There has been a widespread loss of confidence, and major sectors of America's financial system are at risk of shutting down. The government's top economic experts warn that without immediate action by Congress, America could slip into a financial panic and a distressing scenario would unfold."

If- as you rightwingnuts like to rant- the economy is fine and that the Stimulus/jobs program is only to further the Democrats agenda-- what was the Bush/Paulson inititated Tarp Bank bailout then for- just to put some pocket change in GW's fatcat buddies pockets.. :???:

Actually to me it appears it is some of the rightwingers- that only want to scream and yell about the new administration- and the new President- that need to get over it.... And to recognize that on the subject of how serious a problem the economy is in- and that quick government action needs to be taken to fix it- BOTH their old Hero GW and now Obama are speaking almost identically....

So if Obama is lying like the rightwingernuts portray- then Bush and Paulson must have been lying too- eh :???:

But as most rational folks have noticed lately- The Republicans have not come up with any alternative- except whine, cry, and bitch that they didn't get enough in the Stimulus bill....

Just for the record, OT, I'm not in favor of any "stimulus" bill from Bush or Obama. I believe in less government, not more. Tax cuts (i.e. Reagen tax cuts of the '80') would do more for than the economy than any stimulus ever has or ever will.

I did not agree with Bush's stimulus plan, either. Got it?

I'll get over Reagen just as soon as you get over Bush.

Actually, the Republicans did have an alternative plan, but guess what happened when it was presented to Pelosi and Reid...

they threw it in the air, and while flipping off the republicans, said, screw you,.. "I won"

oops,.. no that was how Obama treated the republican plan...

but he did do it at a nice party...

Pretty good story only it should involve using a leaky bucket to move the water. The leaky bucket represents the GOVERNMENT. SEE that fits the story even better.
