Unions To Counter Town Hall 'Tea-Party Patriots': Report

12:00 pm

August 6, 2009

By Frank James

Like the cavalry, organized labor reportedly plans on swooping in to the rescue of beleaguered lawmakers who are getting shouted down by conservative activists at town-hall meetings during discussions of health-care overhaul legislation.

The Huffington Post's Sam Stein reports that the AFL-CIO is calling on its troops to counter the anti-health care reform hecklers.

An excerpt:

The nation's largest federation of labor organizations has promised to directly engage with boisterous conservative protesters at Democratic town halls during the August recess.

In a memo sent out on Thursday, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney outlined the blueprint for how the union conglomerate would step up recess activities on health care reform and other topics pertinent to the labor community. The document makes clear that Obama allies view the town hall forums as ground zero of the health care debate. It also uses the specter of the infamous 2000 recount "Brooks Brothers" protest to rally its members to the administration's side.

The principal battleground in the campaign will be town hall meetings and other gatherings with members of Congress in their home districts," reads the memo. "We want your help to organize major union participation to counter the right-wing "Tea-Party Patriots" who will try to disrupt those meetings, as they've been trying to do to meetings for the last month. ...

(Remember the hooligans - many of them Republican Congressional staff - who harassed Florida vote counters in 2000? We can't let that happen again!)."

These already ugly town halls look like they could be about to get significantly uglier.

So I am hearing. Some of the more radical folks here at work have been sounding off a bit to much. There are many vocals too. They are plotting and planning beyond what is neccessary. Mostly everyone I know has had way more than enough of the Obama admin. The few Dems and Libs who used to argue are now jumping ship, or else they are scared to defend the crazies any more.

I was in a little family restaurant that caters to the farmers and ranchers of the area, busy and noisy like all places like that tend to be, talk ranging from the price of hay to the cash for clunkers and other such talk, when in walked a fellow wearing a t shirt that said OBAMA 08 on the front in big bold letters, It was like someone had put a silencer on the place.
NOTHING just quiet, that fellow sat at the counter and looked around asked for coffee looked around again and got up and left without his coffee!
Wonder why? No one said a word to him, no one mentioned his BMW he was driving, nor his somewhat long hair, not even his t shirt!.

Guess he felt uncomfortable around real people!

A nice little dialogue between the four stooges who are the only people left standing in PB now

I can't wait to see how many of these threads turn into the four of you agreeing among yourselves and thinking you're on top of the world.

I can't wait for you to actually post something from yourself that has any substance.

DEMS SNEAK UNION THUGS INTO CARNAHAN TOWN HALL
Tea Party Taxpayers Locked Out!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--ZJhR3T4aw&feature=player_embedded

UPDATE: St. Louis County police say six people were arrested. Two of those were arrested on suspicion of assault, one of resisting arrest and three on suspicion of committing peace disturbances. Carnahan was gone when the ruckus started.

Kenneth Gladney, a 38-year-old conservative activist from St. Louis, said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with “Don't tread on me” printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room of the St. John's Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was waiting to be treated for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face that he suffered in the attack. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack started.

“It just seems there's no freedom of speech without being attacked,” he said.

this is the best view of the "thug" with a name tag, coming out the doors and assaulting the concerned citizen.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2009/08/06/violence_erupts_at_rep_castors_town_hall_in_tampa.html

From the YouTube description: As Rep. Kathy Castor was introduced, the reaction was overwhelmingly against her, with boos and chants of "You work for us." And in the lobby, the counter of Planned Parenthood representatives shouting, "Healthcare Now."

Shortly thereafter, violence erupted, where there were 2-3 big goons came out and started pushing those in line, and roughing up one in the corner (see top left screen) as well as another being put in a choke hold. Directly in front of the gentleman in the plaid type shirt, is one of them in a flower print. (eleven o'clock from the camera phone in the scene.) To right of the phone, another in a white shirt. Keep your eye on him, as he then goes for the choke hold on one of the people.

Deep in the corner of your upper left screen, there's a gentleman in a green shirt, whose is getting roughed up, as these two are pushing others. A police officer enters the seen, (Dark blue uniform, short, and a black officer.) You still see the gentleman getting roughed up. The cop not doing anything. They then let the guy go, as they slam the door shut. Later in the video, you see the officer conversing with the gentleman who got roughed. After a brief description from myself, the cop walks away.

Anybody else see 501(c)(3) investigation coming?
