You didn't answer my question, Tam. Can you honestly say that CU has gone out of their way to decrease the consumption of beef in anyway that they could?

Correction: On "SOME" of the land they own. In fact a very small percentage of the nearly 12 MILLION acres they control.

These people, the "Nature Conservancy", are in direct competition with cattlemen on the ranches they have purchased. The sellers to them even get a tax break on capital gains taxes from the sold acreage. Not to mention the tax-free status of the "NC". "Land Trusts" such as these are scary. The government itself owns over 1/2 of the land mass in the U.S. and with these people buying easements and land everyday we'll wake up with a severe shortage of private land one day.

The NCBA are fools for getting in bed with these folks.

Since there apparently is nothing NCBA does that you would say is right, it doesn't surprise me that you have that opinion.

Would you please document just how "NCBA is in bed with" Nature Conservancy? Explain how talking to people, even those with whom you do not necessarily agree, is wrong? Has NCBA endorsed NC? I don't think so! There are some individual NCBA members who are working with NC. At this point in time, that is not a crime.

Personally, I do not support ANY more land going into the control of ANY level of government. In fact, I support government divestiture of much of it's land holdings, especially in the western USA. I belive, at the least, there should be an exchange: sell to individuals land in the west, and acquire any "new" land for government east of the Mississippi River.

I don't like individuals or companies or whatever, owning extremely large amounts of land.........but I like even less for government to dictate who can own what and how much of it, whether that is land, cattle, or any other thing. Ted Turner owns about 10% of the land in Jones County in SD, plus some more in at least one adjoining county. I don't believe that is healthy, but also do not believe government should prevent such ownership.

MJ you critisize R-CALF for having anything to do with CU and Carol Tucker Foreman, yet when the NCBA joins forces with NC you say it is not wrong to talk to those you agree with. Pot calling the kettle black I think.

NCBA also joined up with Ms. Foreman once too, but that is ok by you as long as the NCBA did it.

R-CULT aligned themselves with Carol Tucker foreman because they wanted to join hands with anyone that would criticize USDA to stop Canadian imports. THAT WAS THE MOTIVE! That was the point they said "USDA has not gone far enough to assure the safety of our beef".

When BSE was found in the U.S., R-CULT stood up and said that "we have the safest beef in the world due to the firewalls we have in place".

A direct contradiction with what they stated yesterday.

SH, I have school children. If the beef available under the school lunch program is not safe due to the USDA not keeping it safe (this has happened before), I would want it pulled from the menu also.

Just because I hold this position does not mean that I am anti-beef.

Stop the fear mongering. You are only scaring yourself.
 
If the beef is not safe for school children, it's not safe for you either.

Hit the streets with your pickett signs (pun intended) and warn consumers that the USDA has not gone far enough to assure the safety of our beef. You obviously have a larger concern for food safety than the agency taxed with that responsibility.
