CITT Rules U.S. Corn Not Injurying Canada Corn Industry

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) has determined that imports of unprocessed U.S. corn are not causing injury or threatening to cause injury to the Canadian corn industry.
This should mean that the provisional duties being collected on shipments of U.S. unprocessed corn into Canada should be stopped and the duties already collected should be returned.
Specifically, CITT said in a three-paragraph finding that it "finds that the dumping and subsidizing of the aforementioned product originating in or exported from the United States of America have not caused injury and are not threatening to cause injury to the domestic industry."
Canadian livestock interests have hailed the ruling and others note that a continuation of the provisional duties would have negatively impacted the fledgling ethanol industry in Canada and potentially chased some planned plants to the United States.
The Canadian corn industry, however, is said to be "mulling its options" in the wake of the CITT decision.
