USDA investigating a new case of BSE
Wednesday, July 27, 2005, 2:23 PM

Few details are available, but U.S. officials confirm they are investigating a possible third case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy. Dr. John Clifford with the U.S. Department of Agriculture says they are calling the case "undetermined".

He says the animal in question has been destroyed and samples are being tested for the disease. The animal was reportedly born before the U.S. ruminant to ruminant feed ban.

Comments made during a USDA teleconference broadcast on the agency's website indicate that the animal in question was a 12 year old cow that was "tagged" back in April, after having problems calving.

Statement issued by USDA Chief Veterinarian, Dr. John Clifford

Just listened to the conference call. Apparently the animal was found on a farm. It was a 12 year old animal that was having trouble calving. The vet took a sample back in April and 'forgot' to send it in.

When are we going to wise up? It's time to nut up and require the slaughter of any animal born before the 1997 feed ban.

I'll go out on a limb and make a prediction: 95% of all cows born before the '97 feed ban will be gone within the next 5 years

And hopefully they won't be fed to any other ruminants.
