USDA- May Need to Tighten US/Canadian Border

BSE is a packer casused problem and look what is happening to the producers!!!

BSE would not have been transmitted to more cattle if packersdidn't feed cattle parts back to cattle to save a little money.

It would be a dead issue now if the USDA and the Canadian counterpart was competent and listened to "sound science" instead of quoting it all the time for political purposes and doing everything but real sound science.

When are you all going to realize that you are just being used?

"There is a very strong political lobby in Japan that does not want to see resumption of US beef imports."
Is that Japanese lobby group anything like Montana's RCALF tht does not want to see the resumption of Canadian beef imports?

From what I have seen, the Japanese who don't want US beef now are not against it totally, they just want more assurances such as testing. Same with R-CALF, we have a list of things we would like to see before Canadian beef and cattle are allowed in.

Has this list remained constant, since May 2003, or has it changed with time ?

It hasn't changed much to my knowledge. The main items that I can recall right now is that we want Canadian beef labeled as such, and we want proof of an effective feed ban (an end to post ban positives).

If you want to know everything, it's on the R-CALF web site.

Been to the website, it changes tune weekly, in fact the stuff pre US BSE has been erased or removed.

What's up with that?

Did their opinion change, since the Texas and Alabama cows?

R-CALF demands definitive answers about every Canadian case, Is R-CALF demanding definitive answers about your DIFFERENT Strain of BSE? How does R-CALF know that the safeguards you have had for years "the only country to have said safeguards prior to having BSE" (Which by the way are the safeguards that protect from our strain of BSE) are enough to protect the US consumers from your DIFFERENT strain of BSE? Why aren't they demanding the banning of all your beef until definitive answers are known and the exact rate of risk your beef presents to all US consumers both domestic and foreign is known? Is the US beef the SAFEST IN THE WORLD if you don't know where your Different BSE strain came from????? how do you know you have the right safeguards in place to protect the US herd or consumers from it? Lots of unanswered questions Sandhusker I don't think you should be exporting beef or feeding it to US consumers until we have all the definitive answers about your DIFFERENT BSE.
