KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Department of Agriculture is providing $200 million to 67 U.S. trade organizations to promote U.S. agricultural products overseas.

"Promoting products overseas is one of the most important things we can do," U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns said Wednesday. "USDA supports efforts to reach out to consumers around the world to demonstrate the high quality and variety of American food products."

The fiscal year 2006 allocations described by Johanns, who made the announcement at a Kansas City appearance that coincided with the National Association of Farm Broadcasters' convention, will be administered under the Foreign Agricultural Service's Market Access Program.

Once final numbers are tallied, U.S. agricultural exports for fiscal year 2006 are expected to be a record $68 million.

If promoting our products overseas is beneficial, I would think promoting our products here would be beneficial as well.
