USDA Lowers 2008 Beef Export Forecast Again

For the second month in a row, USDA lowered its 2008 U.S. beef export forecast based on slower exports so far this year.

In its monthly World Supply and Demand report, USDA lowered its beef export forecast for the year to 1.54 billion pounds compared with a month ago when it expected exports for the year to hit about 1.67 billion pounds. Two months ago USDA pegged 2008 beef exports at 1.71 billion pounds.

In 2007, the U.S. exported an estimated 1.43 billion pounds of beef.

U.S. officials continue to negotiate with Japan and South Korea to ease restrictions on U.S. beef, including holding back Congressional approval of the free-trade agreement with South Korea, pending changes in its beef import policies.

I'll bet you Maxine would...Her cultist leadership is still telling her that denying Creekstone the right to produce a product the consumer wants was a good idea....

I watched the House hearings on the Westland/Hallmark cow last night...And after watching it- if many people watched it- Creekstone could probably sell all the tested meat they wanted to- at what ever additional price it cost them- to the domestic market alone, let alone what they could export....

USDA/NCBA did them and the cattle producers a huge disservice by not allowing them to be ahead of the market on a potentially very marketable product...Too bad they and us producers couldn't sue both to recover the profits we've lost in the last 5 years.....

Is this another example of the "wonderful things NCBA has done to enhance US producer's profitability", MRJ?

With friends like them.....
