USFS trying to buy ranchland in North Dakota

The Arizona Republic recently reported that the U. S. Forest Service is trying to buy 5,150 acres of the Eberts Ranch in North Dakota. I believe this ranch is near Medora. The article stated that this acreage is part of a historic Badlands ranch is in an area where Theodore Roosevelt ranched before he became President.

The ranch is currently owned by brothers, Ken, Allan and Dennis Eberts, and supposedly they have been trying to sell this land for several years. Does anyone out there know these guys and why they want to sell? The USFS has stated that it now has about $1.5 million dollars available for a down payment. What will the USFS do with the land? An appraisal is expected to be finished this month.
