Very good day!!

Well that tares it. Dang it. When I saw those two young ladies dragging that calf, I have got to learn to do it. I need an invite to a branding the western way.
You know before I got divorced I thought women weren't good for much. However since I got a "good" woman for a girlfriend, I have learned a very important lesson. A woman can do any dang thing she wants to. And do it well. The trick is to start with a "good" woman.
I still ain't going to let one show me up though. I will learn to catch calves.

About that not letting one show you up. Don't come to this country and try to keep up with them roping, unless you get lots of practice first!

Can you catch 10 or 20 calves in a row without a miss? By the heels i mean. Lots of these girls can. :o

These two young ladies weren't doing anything, acting bored, so I said, go catch one!! They had a ball!! They found the tiniest one (they thought would be easiest), was the fastest runner and kicked. They did pretty good, brought in a number of calves that way, to help get the job done. BTW, this occurred 2 weeks prior to the big branding, we branded the calves from the young cows and were a little bit short handed.

That is a cute picture of the two girls dragging in the calf. Each one has ahold of one leg of the calf, and it is kicking. Through fifty years of trial and error, I have "discovered" that if you only grab one hind leg they can't kick. With two people each holding one of the legs, the calf can kick like a son-of-a-gun. If both people grab onto the same leg, the kicking part is eliminated, but even then the calf is heavy and hard to drag. That is where a good horse shines, to do the dragging part. :-)

Yup, daughter's friend is a city girl, not likely to rope off a horse, she could hardly ride. Daughter wouldn't rope, didn't want to make her friend feel bad (girlie girl thing). Oh, well...

had to bring this back up, brent is the guy holding the front end of the calf in the last picture and Haymaker just posted the story about one of his hunting adventures
