Vickey's CATCH PEN Gazette
One question keeps popping-up
"What is a Catch Pen?"
It's not working Corrals - it a small pen, out in the wilds, where you can catch and hold Wild or Semi-Wild Horses, Cattle what ever - untill you deside that to do with them.
There are as many designs and ideas of catch pens as there are livestock owners. Small producers have the same need for a catch pen and working facilities as large producers. The difference is the size of the catch pen needed.
The ideal Catch Pen may have one main objective but must incorporate a number of useful functions.
The main objective is the confinement to impose management. One pen can allow this objective to be accomplished smoothly. The facilities to sort and load items to be managed is my Catch Pen

I think it's a regional term that used for the same thing as corrals. Usually down here, there's a wing, or smaller pasture joining the "corrals" but we usually call the whole shebang "the catch pens". You move your cattle towards the pens, get them in the smaller pasture, then push them on up to the pens....so it's a two part word....first you "catch" them, then you pen them.......they can be out in the middle of no where, or up near the house, whatever is handiest with the bunch of cows you are working.
