'WAITING FOR LOCUSTS AND PESTILENCE'

Wintry storm brings new woe to hard-hit Northeast

A wintry storm dropped snow and rain on the Northeast on Wednesday, bringing dangerous winds and knocking out power in a region where hundreds of thousands were still in the dark after Superstorm Sandy.

The nor'easter storm brought fresh misery to thousands in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut whose homes were destroyed by Sandy when it smashed ashore on October 29, bringing historic flooding and high winds. The storm killed 120 people in the United States and Canada.

Christine Jones, 73, said she had continued to live without heat or power in her beachside apartment building in coastal Far Rockaway in New York - even though it means climbing the stairs to her 10th floor apartment with a flashlight in hand.

"They tell us to evacuate," she said, but she and her neighbors do not want to leave. "They're scared they're going to be robbed ... The teen-age boys ... they try to break in."

"You have to prepare for the storm that's coming in a few hours," New Jersey Governor Chris Christie told residents. "I'm waiting for the locusts and pestilence next," he joked, in a reference to Old Testament plagues.

TEN DAYS WITHOUT HEAT

Cold and snow was particularly bad news to residents who lost heat.

"It's coming up on 10 days with people being freezing in their homes," said Peter DiPaola, town supervisor of Pelham, north of New York City.

"I lost all my winter clothing in the flood, so I am wearing three layers of things in order to stay somewhat warm and dry," said Wayne Steinman, a resident of Staten Island, one of the parts of New York City hardest hit by Sandy. "Everything becomes overwhelming."

Utilities warned that the storm would slow their efforts to restore power to homes and businesses.

Many gasoline stations remained shut around the region, complicating residents' efforts to flee the new storm.

seems no one is listening to Christie's warnings today, nor expecting Obama tomorrow.. :?

Well I certainly hope that those idiots that voted for BHO aren't holding their breath for him to make an appearance after this storm.....election's over, he won, he has no reason to show face.

Hopefully there won't be further damage.

I suppose now with the election history and thinking of some of these radical rightwingernuts and their preachers blaming everything on something/someone they disagree with - this will be proclaimed a Religious Damnation for the election....

Christy's new handle------Krispy Kreme :D
I ate one of them today for the first time....We were travelling and wife bought a sack because she had heard of them...Turned out she thought they were too sweet - me too-- so the grandkids got them when we got back to town....

Old Christies being a government leader- and not a politician has taken him up several steps in the book.. Gives him a good jump for being the Repub candidate for Prez in 2016 when Obama is done...
And if Republicans keep kicking latinos, minorities/blacks, women, gays and lesbians, out of their tent- while continuing to be the Party of No in Congress with no new ideas- as the R leadership expressed today--- Hillary may be his opponent and win in a landslide....

Republicans have to learn that we live in a world where a new TV, cell phone, I-Pad , computer, etal comes out every day-- and they don't want to go backwards....

True. And could anyone here believe, as many times as I've been referred to as liberal, I actually don't have a cell phone. I think I'm going to get one of those electronic leashes next yr. :)
