well they owners are not in any pain.. or worry.. but for those who shop or work there,.. this may not be only be bad news,.. but potentially devastating news..

Wal-Mart's Woes Stem From Economy in 'State of Collapse'

Wal-Mart issued weak earnings news Thursday, but the company isn't doing anything wrong, says Howard Davidowitz, chairman of retail consultant Davidowitz & Associates. It's merely suffering from a weak economy.

"Wal-Mart is a terrific operator," Davidowitz tells Yahoo. "They didn't suddenly become stupid. ... The economy is in a state of collapse. That's what's going on."

The world's biggest retailer cut its full-year profit forecast after second-quarter profit came in below analysts' expectations.

The employment situation illustrates the weakness of the U.S. economy. Of the new jobs generated this year, 75 percent are low-wage, part-time, Davidowitz explains.

Real unemployment, including those who have stopped looking for work and are working fewer hours than they want, is 14 percent, he adds.

"Business is bad in America,"

so when is the so called Obama recovery going to start?

Tell me where I can send my donation to Walmart's Walton heirs already in the top 10 of the world's richest people. They and GAP, the last I heard, were the only ones that "basically" said they didn't care about the working conditions of Indian garment factory workers in the aftermath of the building collapse that killed ~ 110 of them in a factory in India. Yeah my heart goes out to them.

If you had read my comment and the article you could see it wasn't about the owners,.. but about those who shopped or worked there..

the working class or working poor.. .. who are suffering .. or soon will be..

the article had little to nothing to do with the owners... it was about the state of our economy and how it may soon have an even more devastating impact on the working poor..

do you think they are alone... I am sure the list is much longer of CEO's who care about the workers.. let alone the high paid spokespersons..

take Nike.. for instance..
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/money/industries/retail/2008-08-01-nike-malaysia-labor-violations_N.htm
"About 1,200 employees work at the Hytex factory, which has produced T-shirts for Nike for 14 years." "Their wages were also withheld until a $375 foreign worker fee the Malaysian government requires from the factory is repaid. Nike says the fee is less than a quarter of their average annual income."

$375 multiplied by about 4 is only $1,575 per year.
multiply that by 1,200 workers, and the total is about $1.89 million for one factory.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2013/02/14/how-michael-jordan-still-earns-80-million-a-year/
"The terms of Jordan’s current deal with Nike are a closely guarded secret, but royalties now generate more than $60 million annually for MJ, according to sources."

This is modern slavery.

now if Obama made an effort to get manufacturing back in the US by lowering taxes and forcing China, India and Bangladesh into protecting workers instead of golfing with their high priced socks and name brand clothes.. then I would actually believe that someone other then the working and middle class cares..

China wants to, as they have 20 million people coming out of the farms and coming into the cities every year, they want to be able to put them to work. They wanna have access to global markets. And so we have right now something they need very badly, which is access to our market and our friends around the world, have that same-- power over China. We-- to make sure that we let them understand that in order for them to continue to have free and open access to the thing they want so badly, our markets, they have to play by the rules.

Yes I have trouble separating the owners from their employees and or shoppers in any business, especially since the owners are among the richest people in the world. You and I will just have to disagree because I can't separate the relationship. Let's see, I make a billion less this year, and although I still make billions--I give my employees a raise which gets many of them off the food stamp roll, money much of which will be spent here where they work. I can handle that and I know they can.

I know what we can do. Let's take ALL of Wal-Marts and the Walton's profits and give it ALL to the employees. That way NONE of them will have a job and the stockholders (owners) will have lost all of their hard earned investment too.

You're a sick person TSR. And Communist to the core.

I can't see spiting the poor and working class out of your not liking the owners..

either way.. that wasn't the intent of the thread, comments or article..

it was about the fragile state of our economy and how any worsening will hurt the poor and working class first and most..

It's called reading comprehension... I've been listening to my wife teach my daughter. I think I can help you.

You hear about anyone that has more money than you and you automatically covet their success and can't focus on any thing else.

Lets try this.....

The employment situation illustrates the weakness of the U.S. economy. Of the new jobs generated this year, 75 percent are low-wage, part-time, Davidowitz explains.

Who's economy is weak?

What percentage of the newly created jobs in the us are low-wage, part-time?

Real unemployment, including those who have stopped looking for work and are working fewer hours than they want, is 14 percent, he adds.

"Business is bad in America,"

What is the real unemployment percent?[/quote]

Small business feel the hurt TSR...Your unions have done nothing to help them... maybe we need to sent the unions in to save the Waltons just like they sent Gm and Dodge into needing a government bail out that they will never pay back

The same anti wealth socialists have nothing to say about wealth when one of their own like Oprah wanted to spend $38,000 on a purse. Did anyone hear anything about using that money to help the poor? These are the truly shallow among us.

GEEZ take Walmart out of the equation forget about Walmart  Think of it this way if a large chain store that makes it's profits by bringing low income people their daily needs at a price they can afford is STILL feeling the pinch in the Obama Economy just what kind of pinch are the mom and pop stores in most small home towns, that are force to cover their operating cost with higher prices that the large chain store feeling?

We hear continuely from Obama and the Dems how the economy is getting better but if this article about Walmart is true, is what we are hearing from Obama TRUE or is just another LIE in a LONG LIST OF LIES from the INCOMPETENT OBAMA ADMINISTRATION? :?

Alternately, TSR could start his own Walmart-like operation and pay his employees as he sees fit. If success was such an easy thing for Sam Walton, it can be the same for him.

Yea, I wonder if TSR gives his profit to his employees at the end of the year?

One reason for smaller profits may be that people are cutting out meaningless junk. One third of the store is junk, the kind of stuff that people impulse buy and a few months later is thrown in the dumpster. Cutting out useless purchases does save money and with the 'great' Obama economy, people may be doing that. Buying more necessities and passing on the useless throw away stuff, anyways my thoughts on this.

The only thing the Obama administration isn't incompetent in is TELLING LIES and spreading propaganda.
