I have a real problem with no oversight when it comes from government no matter what party it comes from. There is just way too much money at stake and it is all public money that can be used by politicians for their own purposes.

Rep. Jeff Flake came out, again, on the House floor about these issues and issues of political payoffs.

I think they should make Jeff Flake (R) of Arizona chairman of the ethics committee.

Follow the laws:

WASHINGTON — A Democratic senator on Tuesday joined Republicans in questioning President Barack Obama's firing of the internal watchdog for the federal AmeriCorps program.

Gerald Walpin, the national service agency's inspector general, was dismissed over his handling of an investigation of the mayor of Sacramento, Calif., Kevin Johnson, an Obama supporter during the presidential campaign.

Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., said the president failed to follow a law she sponsored, which requires that he give Congress 30 days advance notice of an inspector general's dismissal, along with the cause for the firing. Obama merely said he had lost confidence in Walpin.

"Loss of confidence is not a sufficient reason," McCaskill said. "I'm hopeful the White House will provide a more substantive rationale, in writing, as quickly as possible."

Late Tuesday, Obama's special counsel offered some details in a letter, saying Walpin engaged in "trouble and inappropriate conduct."

Norman Eisen sent a letter to McCaskill, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., and Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, describing Walpin as "confused, disoriented, unable to answer questions" during a May meeting. Eisen said the behavior led board members to question his capacity to serve.

"Mr. Walpin had become unduly disruptive to agency operations, impairing his effectiveness" and lost the confidence of the board, Eisen wrote.

Last week, Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, asked for information on any role first lady Michelle Obama's office may have played in the decision.

Any comments about rule of law, OT?

Still waiting to see all the reasons- but on this one they say the guy was flat out senile and suffering dementia...Almost 80 years old- and an investigator :???:

It does not matter if the reason is justified or not.

The issue is whether the law & procedure was followed, and the simple fact is, the law passed by Congress in 2008, in regards to firing IG's was circumvented.

But that isn't exactly the reason Obama gave, is it?

If there was so much concern about Walpin being senile, why was he asked to address a meeting of 2000 people in San Francisco just two days before he was fired?

You were an investigator, OT? You're not looking at the facts asking questions. You're just putting on your usual blanket defense of Obama. I don't understand what you're gaining by that.

Yep-- and I know a guy almost 80 years old shouldn't be leading up investigations...Especially if what they are saying about his senility is true...

Why does the military have a 62 year old mandatory retirement age for its general officers?.....

Does it make sense to you that they would ask a man they knew to be senile to address a body of 2000 attendees at a meeting?

Wasn't California in his district?

I won't argue that. However, that's probably not the type of person that you're going to ask to speak at such a gathering, it it? Bear in mind that he was asked to speak a month after his "episode" and two days before he was fired. You still want to make excuses for your boy?

I'm hanging to see what the hearings bring out...Altho the Americorps mess sounds shadey- I'm also aware of the problems with publicly putting out reasons for firing someone or not renewing a contract- under privacy laws....
I had an experience where I and all the school board took a lot of heat for a firing- and subsequent closed hearings- but under individual privacy laws they had to be...The gals attorney then appealed it to a court hearing- where everything had to be open- and she came out looking like a dolt...One days testimony on all the screwups she'd done and thats all it took for the Judge to rule we had all the reason in the world....

If that's the case, why are Biden and Gibbs still employed?

The firing drew criticism from Republicans and Democrats, who charged that it violated a new law passed last year to protect the independence of inspectors general by requiring 30 days notice and a full explanation to Congress of the dismissal of any IG.

If democrats and republicans both agree on anything something must be fishy.

Are you aware of the problems of the government firing people for BS reasons because they stepped on the toes of the administration's people? Maybe you simply don't care since it's your boy that doing it? You can't tell me that you don't see a red flag waving here.
