WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Official Washington was in celebration mode on New Year’s Day after kind of averting a completely unnecessary crisis that was entirely of its own creation.

“This deal proves that if we all procrastinate long and hard enough, we can semi-solve any self-inflicted problem at the very last minute in a way that satisfies no one,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky).

But even as Sen. McConnell basked in self-congratulation, he warned Congress against the complacency that could come with having sort of fixed its own completely avoidable mess.

“This is a new year, and much work remains to be done,” he said. “It’s up to us to concoct entirely new optional disasters that we will have to undo at some later date in a more or less half-assed way.”

This " cliff" was a total piece of made up business by the Rep's party. HOPING and assured they were gonna win the election, they painted a pic of gloom and doom. In their mind, they'd win the election and then proceed to ride in and save the day!!

BUT...REALITY stayed strong and now the beast that the Rep's created is snappin at their heels and they don't know what'da hell to do!!

That's funny...at the time, the Democrats wanted to take credit for the "Fiscal Cliff" deal.

President Obama supported the Budget Control Act of 2011 and signed it into law. The administration released a fact sheet on the law which was fairly complimentary of the law. It noted that the deal removed uncertaintly from the economy by granting a debt ceiling increase and ensured that the budget deficit would be reduced in coming years. President Obama also gave a speech in which he stated that the legislation was a good start, but that more work needed to be done.

In November of 2011, when the super-committe failed, a number of Republicans that voted for the legislation began to call for the removal of the sequestrations on the defense industry. When this occured, President Obama stated that he would veto any legislation that intended to over-rule those cuts.

On the evening of July 31, 2011, Obama announced that the leaders of both parties in both chambers had reached an agreement that would reduce the deficit and avoid default.[6] The same day, Speaker of the House John Boehner's office outlined the agreement for House Republicans.[15] One key element in the deal being reached and the logjam being broken earlier that afternoon was U.S. Vice President Joe Biden's ability to negotiate with his 25-year Senate colleague, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.[16][17][18] Biden had spent the most time bargaining with Congress on the debt question of anyone in the administration, and McConnell had viewed him as the one most trustworthy.[16][17]
