We been busy

We have been a bit on the busy side this week so I apologize for not responding to alot of posts, have had a little time to read some things but not much time to post replies  Besides the 4th of July, with the Cattlewomen booth, still trying to hay, check wells, fix fence, the usual stuff, we hosted two chaps from bloody old England for the week. They are farmers, dairymen and beef men from UK that wanted to experience Montana ranching. We did our best to show them our life, fixed fence, checked wells, chased cows on horses, fixed a stock tank, shot gophers, sat on the porch with a cold one and compared notes. They do things way different over there, but ranchers are ranchers, they are just more gentlemanly than I. They have a website, www.townsendfarm.co.uk that explains their operation, they sell all of their beef, some pork, some lamb, milk and cheese, and a whole lot of veggies that they raise, through their store. Made for some very interesting conversation. MCG took them hunting while I baled, and Hanta Yo and her took them down to the Custer Battlefield that they wanted to see. Here you go.

Getting all saddled up and ready to ride off into the midday sun, wasn't exactly early, but it was not too hot yet

This game chap had never been on a horse and we took him into a 3 section pasture that is not anywhere near being flat, Willie the Indian horse took good care of him and his first experience with the roundup was a smashing hit.

Hanta Yo had frozen water bottles in the truck for us, 90 degrees is hard on people who never see it that hot, that water is a good thing

ON to the battlefield, can't forget about the horses involved

Old yellow hair himself

The crew on a walkabout, minus the hay crew

Looking down towards the Little BigHorn, the sight of the most intense part of the battle.

I think that alot of this sentiment is still alive today

Time for goodbyes and cheerios, they are off to Calgary and the Stampede

These two are our first guests since we joined up with www.montanaworkingranches.com this is an amazing project

Okay...you are forgiven for having been absent for wayyyy tooooo loooong!!! :D Obviously, you have been a tad bit busy!! However, I must comment that you really should have introduced these English gentlemen to our very own "Sir Knight Jingle Bobby"!! and...gotten lots of pictures of the greeting!! We, too, are still trying to get the haying done!!! Danged rain has had things stalled for a few weeks and now we are running to play "catch-up"!! I will be gone for the next 48 hours while I take demodriver to Gonzaga (Spokane) for her "admission interview" and meeting with her potential basketball coaches!! Not looking much forward to this as I know I will be fighting the Winnebago Brigade the whole way!!   What is with the shirt that MCG has on!!??? Please tell me she is not a Bobcat fan like my demodriver??!!  Sounds like a wonderful project that you are involved in....not that you don't already do enough for ranching and ranchers!! Sure am glad to have folks like you on our side!! Good luck to ya in getting your haying done...cowboyup will be driving baler for the next few days while I am gone!! Sure hope the weather holds up!!

Hey if you think that having 4 degrees on the office wall from MSU is going to give any kid around here a reason to wear a shirt from UM, you better think again ranchwife, GO CATS!!!!!!!!!
I would have loved to run these guys over to meet the now famous Sir Knight Jingly Bob, but they bought tickets to the Calgary Stampede so they are off on another adventure. Should have told them to run up to Northern Ranchers, they like the bull riding and the chuckwagon racing the most, they could have gotten a real feel for it there.

My niece brought her boyfriend from England up for a visit two years ago-he rode his first horse-shot his first gun and ate his first calf nuts all in one afternoon. He had a blast was toppling gophers right and left lol. Yeah iof they headed up here I could probably finangle them a ride in a chuckwagon when the guys are practicing. One outfit wants Ty to outride fotr them but he'll stick to riding bulls it's safer.

Thx for the tour sw,interesting! My family comes from Scotland and they are always amazed by gregs ways, and ALL our land, lol we don't have much land compared to way bigger ranchers.

NR,I agree with Ty sticking to bullriding instead of outriding, gets a little hot and heated in the barns after a run if an outrider comes in late

My previous school before going out to MSU was Northwestern in Evanston... The wildcats... Well, their nickname in the Big Ten was the mild cats... Of course, my last year at the old purple and white U was the Rose Bowl year so at least everyonce in a while they bite the big boys in the butt...

I haven't really followed college rodeo too much lately- but there was a time back in the 60's when the Bobcats had the toughest teams- both mens and womens- going down the road...Marvin Joyce- JC Bonine- Bud Monroe- Mary Potter........

OT, clear up until 1990 the MSU rodeo team was a national contender, Dan Mortensen, Ken Lensgrav and so on. Since then the community of Bozeangeles decided that the CNFR was not worth having in Bozeman, the support of rodeo went down with MSU, recruitment went down and now MSU is not even a regional contender. The highlight of June used to be going to the CNFR, now its all bunny hugging at the strawberry festival

Ohh it's not after in the barns that worries me-lots of stuff out on the track can turn out bad. Did you see that guy get caught between the leaders and wheelers last year that was pretty scary stuff. I don't know how he can just grab the horn and swing on -his old man sure can't lol.

Back in the 60's the pastime in Bozeman was hippy shearing- rope em out of the back of the pickup and shear em- but thats a felony hate crime now

Speaking of bunny hugging--The last major amount of time I spent in Bozeman area was in the mid 70's when I spent the year down the Gallatin Canyon...Things and people were already drastically changing with the building of Big Sky and all the development starting down the Gallatin and Madison Valleys...

When they opened the Hotel at Big Sky the President of Northwest Orient Airlines (which was a major Big Sky Corporate investor) flew into Belgrade in his private jet liner that had shamrocks and leprechauns painted on it- they rolled out a green carpet for him and he staggered and fell down the stairway quite pickled- accompanied by 7 very beautiful young ladies that he called his "stewardess's"....Anyway in the week they were there I had a chance to talk with some of the stewardess's and found that a couple were former Playboy bunnies that he stole away from Hefner....I remember one little Oriental girl that I felt so sorry for-must have been quite financially distressed... The night of the Hotel Grand Opening she could only afford to wear a black dress that was so worn that you could see thru it and so small that it barely covered her behind-- and on top of that she couldn't afford any undies...
