Riding out to wean some calves
Kosmo opening a gate
To let his old folks through
And then he shuts the gate
This takes a quiet horse.
His mom was in awe, and his dad says, "Aw....."
Assembling the herd
Putting them into an enclosure
Gently persuading
Peach on her paint; my sister came along on a Polaris and brought some sorting sticks.
Kosmo and I letting cows out
They were eager to go out on fresh meadow grass.
Pushing the cows home
They haven't really missed their calves yet.
Around an obstacle
And through a gate
Everything is working fine.
Into the home corral, where several bale rings are loaded with hay. The cows are locked up about a mile away from where
they last saw their calves.
Other spectators look on with interest.
The heifer calves back where we sorted. They have access to pretty good fresh grass. I also rolled out one bale of alfalfa
and one bale of nice meadow hay. There is music in the air tonight--what could be considered as a bovine ballad.
