PureCountry said:Well, the storm has hit. I wouldn't call it a 20yr storm, like they were saying on the news the last couple of days. But, the meteorologists are still saying that, because it's the largest high/low pressure system combination they've seen in, well, 20 years. Started snowing through the night sometime, and we've had 2-3 inches so far. -12C with 50-60mph winds aren't makin' it too comfy out for man or beast. This is what the Environment Canada Weather Warning says:
AN INTENSE DISTURBANCE CROSSING SOUTHERN ALBERTA HAS PRODUCED SNOW AND STRONG WINDS OVER CENTRAL ALBERTA RESULTING IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. WIDESPREAD SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 10 CENTIMETRES HAVE BEEN REPORTED WITH LOCAL HEAVIER AMOUNTS. THE STRONG WINDS WILL PERSIST FOR MUCH OF TODAY AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WILL SLOWLY IMPROVE FROM THE NORTHWEST AS THE SNOW TAPERS OFF AND THE WINDS GRADUALLY DIMINISH. BRISK WINDS AND COLD TEMPERATURES NEAR MINUS 30 HAVE RESULTED IN EXTREME WIND CHILLS OVER THE HIGH LEVEL REGION. THE WIND CHILLS WILL MODERATE LATER TODAY WHEN THE WINDS DIMINISH.
If we were getting 2-3' rather than inches, like some of you folks got in Colorado and such, I'd call it a 20yr storm. This is just a cold snap and a snow squall. One more reason to throw another log on the fire, pour a cup of something hot, curl up with Momma in a blanket and try to figure out why we keep having babies every 20 months.![]()
