Weather

Yep- 5 Below here this morning-light snow-wind chill hanging in around 30 Below...Yesterday there was 500 cows out picking in the valley- so far this morning I've seen none... They all pretty well have found a hole to crawl into.....

Sounds like those heifers we were looking at picking up this week may get to stay in the southern part of the state a week or two longer as Taylor called and said they are pretty well snowed in- and expecting several days of blow and snow with 50 mph winds predicted- and it may take some time after it ends to get dug out...

4 foot drifts down the driveway this mornin' after a nice little blizzard last evening. -6F and a tad bit breezy as I checked stock this mornin'. Hope this isnt planning on staying like this till April.

Beautiful day today, up to about -11C (12F) with no wind to speak of and sunshine. Can't ask for nicer than that.

it was only-15 this morning at 7am when i went out, thought things were going to be great.well i had a slow start this morning,my 06 chev duramax with the allison tranny would not shift into reverse luckliy i was pointed out.so icould go feed.grain to calves.spent the rest 0f the morning deicing and putting on a bumper cover.when it came time for the grill i fashioned one out of cardboard to fit.finaly at 1:30 this afternoon i could shift into reverse and have it work properly.

-10 this AM, a little breezy but the sun shone. Started clouding over, snowing, wind is picking up. Wind chill advisory until 5 pm tomorrow. I sure as heck hope this kills the %&@$# grasshoppers!!!!!!!!

15 below 0 here this morning, one loader tractor gelled up and then a broken throttle cable to boot and the other loader I can't get the grapple to work. I sure love lots of snow and minus 0 temps. Think I will buy me a ranch in the middle of the arctic circle!

I was in the swamp twice in two nights. Not sure if it was a good time or otherwise..... I do know I was not permanantly scarred from the occasions. :D

It was an experience.

We got a pleasant Thanksgiving surprise this evening-- temp went from 17 Below this morning- to 24 Above at 8PM.... :D :D

Kids finally made it to Big Timber today after spending the night in Lewistown-- but this morning that Big Timber/Harlo country had heavy snow- and 40 mph winds gusting to 70 mph....

Heres some pictures Taylor put on of their weather--Whitney Creek
Ranch west of Rapelje where the kids had originally planned to go pick up the heifers we'd bought earlier in the month:

This storm, wind, and plugged roads has made us go to plan B- and will be another week or two before we get the heifers....

It was above freezing for a couple of hours here today, back down to -6 C again now.

The forecasted snow didn't materialize today although east of here 200 miles got 3 to 4 inches.

I dread ice worse than I used to. Here's a link to the last storm.
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/lzk/?n=win0109ayr.htm

The worst ice storm I have ever seen personally was in dec. of 2000 between Christmas and New Year. We had 2 or 3 inches of solid ice in the ground when it was over. Dozers couldn't go any direction but down hill. No one could do much of anything. You had to roll hay from the stack pile. Tractors couldn't think about going on it. I remember I spilled a scrap bowl trying to feed the dog. The bowl and scraps slid down the hill to the bottom. I remember crows trying to light on the hill to eat the scraps and it was too slick for them to light without considerable effort. At least in 2000 the power stayed on. The last one we were out for a long time.
