Welcome To The "Big League"......"Boy"

Welcome to the major leagues, President Obama
S.F Examiner ^ | 2-04-09 | editor

There are multiple lessons to be gleaned by President Barack Obama from the withdrawal Tuesday of former Sen. Tom Daschle as the White House nominee for secretary of the Health and Human Services Department. Here are four: - What usually works in Chicago to quell ethics controversies doesn’t wash in the nation’s capital. You should think twice about advice you get in the future from your advisers, who thought your November aura was still sufficiently bright enough to get Daschle confirmed. They thought Daschle could just say he’s sorry he forgot to pay $128,000 in taxes owed for his use of a limo and personal chauffeur provided by a big-bucks Democratic donor and media baron, then waltz to the White House to fill the dual roles of your health reform czar and HHS head. This isn’t Chicago.

- Having made strong public defenses of two of your three major nominees with tax problems, you have become a defender of Washington’s business-as-usual culture and given up the opportunity to portray yourself as the man who was going to bring change to the Potomac. It was a huge mistake to condone conduct by your Treasury and HHS secretary nominees that would have ruined the reputation of most people. Most of us would have our wages garnished, our bank accounts emptied and liens filed on our homes by the Internal Revenue Service.

- The bigger and more pervasive government becomes, the more difficult it is to find qualified, talented people to serve in high positions who don’t have multiple conflicts of interest.

Washington is overrun with former senators, representatives, executive-branch appointees, career civil servants and congressional staffers who are getting rich peddling influence. Daschle was notable, but far from unique, in having used his “political savvy and influence” to earn more than $5 million in a mere four years, as noted by The New York Times.

The solution is less government — not ever-more-complicated ethics regulations — so that fewer influence seekers look to former Washington big shots such as Daschle.

One day about 2 years ago, I stopped at the local store to fill a can with lawnmower gas. There was a black girl 20-25 years that I didn't know using the pump to fill her car and I simply sat on my tailgate to wait.

No sooner had I sat down, a young black fellow 4-5 years old that I presumed to be her son walked around behind her car, crossed over the island between the pumps towards me.

In my neighborhood, we always speak and wave to everyone we come in contact with.......everyone, so I smiled at him and said, "Hey boy", would you like to come and help me cut grass today?" simply being friendly and passing time while I waited.

About as soon as those words had passed my lips, the mother shot back at me, "He's not your BOY, and no, he can't go cut grass with you".

Stunned with her comment, I asked her if he was a girl.... and she said "NO", he's not a girl, he be a boy, but he's not YOUR boy".

All I could say was.........."Well, if he learns your manners, he needs to be SOMEBODY ELSES boy cause he's gonna have a hard time fitting in," and dropped it there.

I am still bewildered at the hate being taught some of these people.

I'm glad you know how to use a dictionary.

To ignore Mike's clear use of the racial connotation of the word "boy" would require the kind of willful ignorance and purposeful amnesia that was so prevalent during the last eight years for both the Bush administration and some of it's diehard supporters.

What is it like to wake up every morning with a mind like a clean slate?

The real racist are you liberals because that is the first thing that comes out of your mouths. You ignore the reference to "BIG LEAGUE" which is a sports reference where rookies are called "BOYS".

What Mike didn't tell in his story is that most (rural)Blacks aren't that way...but the ones that live off the government and think the white man is the cause of all their problems are taught to hate...which was told to me by a Black friend!

Your the only one smart enough to have caught that Robertmac.

But that said, I am probably the least racist of anyone here. I don't lump them all in to one category, cause I have the advantage of living very closely with them and I can spot the abundant Black Racists from a mile away.

I don't hate them all. But I severely dislike the individuals who perpetuate their hatred for ALL whites. And that is a large percentage of the total here. :p

The other day there was a panel of three people on Hannity and one on the panel commented that the 90% of black that voted for Obama, did so because they were racist and looking for the free handouts. When he was challenged by Hannity and the other two panelist. He commented on the crime rate and the roll those voters played in the welfare system, and that they voted for Obama because he was Black and he was offering them more handouts. Now we all know Hannity is white and the other two on the panel were white women but guess who the guy calling Obama's voters hand out seeking racists was . Yes a BLACK man.
