We went bull shoppin yesterday, have been lookin around for a month or so now, but everything we've found that we like is, a good distance away and we just haven't had time to hop in the truck and take off for a weekend to go look.
Well I heard about a fella here, actually already knew him, just didn't realize he raised bulls too. He's more into the show steers and heifers as his main selling items.
We drove over yesterday to take a looksee at the two he told me he had for sale....13 and 14 mo old Angus Bulls.
One is a 878 son, the other is 878 grandson. And they sure are perdy thangs. Both of which will be comin home to live with us in a few days.

We're headed to a sale this morning. Went and looked them over yesterday and filled our shopping list. One of the bull's is out of Rollin Rock bred bull out of a dam whose sire is a maternal brother to HA Image Maker, calving ease bull. Our top pick for a cow bull is out of the sire that is a maternal brother to Image Maker out of a BAR Ext 205 dam.

Had some pretty thick bulls. Although alot of the bulls were smaller than we'd like to see for MArch coming two year olds.

Maybe we'll get one or two, otherwise there will be alot of sales around here in February and we have a private treaty pen to look through.

I'd be careful of those Image Makers. I've seen them after the
breeding season and they fell all apart. What a disappointment.
The calving ease is there, so you'll be safe on that.

Well, Lil, New Design 878 has A.I. sired more Angus calves the past few years than any other Angus bull. Depending on their mommas they should be pretty good bulls. We have had quite a few of them and never had a bad one. They will take a little more ear off you calves which will cause them to bring a little more at the sale barn ( the steers anyway, I know the cows need a little ear in your country ).

Most of our cows are brangus or brangus cross.....we do have a few Angus mama's. I've noticed the last couple of years that our calves are really leggy and long bodied. Not a real bad thing conciderin their breed, but I'd like a lil more frame to them. And if a lil off the ear brings a lil more at the sale barn, that'll just be a plus. A few years back we had one Angus bull that we used for a couple years, and some of his heifer calves we kept are some of the best in our herd now as mama's.
I think these bulls will really be an asset to our operation.

Ok Got em home!!!!! They loaded like puppies. The man walked along behind them up the alley way carrying a walkin stick, just rubbed em a lil on the behind and they loaded right in the trailer.

Unloaded and they were happy campers.....They GOT WOMEN!!!! Put em in with Lil Lilly's 5 Commercial Heifers.

We won't have the papers until they are transferred. He's gonna do that and get it in the mail tomorrow.

Here's their pictures.

Those are good beefy masculine looking bulls, Jersey Lilly. You picked them right. That is a beautiful sunset picture, also.

I have a real hard time tellin em apart. They are so evenly matched. Only difference I can see is the Son has less of a tail switch than the other, the man we bought them from told me when I asked about it, that apparently when he was a baby someone stepped on the very end of his tail and he had a chunk of hide n hair missin that never grew back. Other than that.....they are perdy evenly matched pair of bulls.
Now........I'm gonna hafta be patient for a good while till I get to see calves out of them LOL (that's gonna kill me, cuz I'm not a patient person)

Soapweed, I've admired your bulls in your pictures for a long time. And your pictures of them have always come to mind when I've been lookin at bulls. You might hafta post more pictures of your calves while I"m waitin to get me thru till I have some out of em LOL

That's good looking stock Lilly, and probably the best decision you made this year, nothing works better than a good angus bull on cross bred brangus cows, the old man that I buy bulls from has some T.C. Freedom, Intrigue, and Saugahautchee sired bulls for sale,I aint much on pricey bulls,it's a fact the biggest differnce between a $2000 bull and a $5000 is advertising, but I got a few black cows up here on the Hill country place that angus will work good on this coming year, maybe me and the ole geezer can deal................good luck & Merry Christmas
PS My posting the boards has been slow,I have an ole friend terminally ill I been looking after, seems like they are all dieing at once.

Prayers for yer friend HayMaker. Your a good fella for seein after them.

These bulls fit perdy much into what we had planned to pay, one was a lil more than the other, but all n all the price was right. Been watchin some of the Bull sales on RVD as well and them bulls just sell for entirely too much for a workin man's operation. Wouldn't mind sellin a few for those prices tho LOL

Sorry to hear about your friend Haymaker. Very nice that you are
taking time out for him now. Good reminder not to take our friends
and/or family for granted.

Lilly, I like your bulls too. Probably like the son a little better
than the grandson, but like you said, not too much difference
between them. The son looks to be a little more mellow hided,
which means easy-doing cattle to me.
