went to a cow sale and they sold the herd bulls before the cows,i couldnt beleive they couldnt have found better bulls to use,the hereford had a HUGE head and his rear looked like a jerseys, the 4 angus bulls were not quite as bad but still not good,i know both these breeds have way better bulls, maybe they just didnt care if they planned to sell, these bulls should have been steered way early, the cows looked good,if they woulda put some good bulls with them they woulda had something

I had an old fella tell me one time just because you own cows don't make you a cattleman. It just burn's me when some of these guys will out and pay three hundred dollars for a bag of seed corn because they have to have the best genetics to grow corn then go buy the cheapest cow freshener they can find. Genetics are the same whether it is corn or cows. You get what you pay for. You don't have to spend the farm to get a good bull. I will get off my soap box know, but it just burns me. Don't cost any more to feed good cattle than poor cattle.

What did the cows bring? Were they pairs, or cows that were going to calve? Thanks.

I was on a sales call the other day and in about 100 yards walked by at least a half million in feed wagons, FWA tractors , 4WD's etc-that was just was parked in that part of the yard. Then I got worked hard on a 200 head A'I deal-it would of cost more to fuel up the iron sitting in the yard-I've never been rich enough to be able to afford poor bulls.

actually it should cost less since they can test for feed efficiency,i dont have perfect cattle so i will be working on them till i die,but they are getting better every year

My favourites are the auction market bull buyers who wind up with open cows (there could be a reason the bull is at the auction mart)

When I'm brand inspecting I always get guys walk up to me at the auctions and ask if there are any decent bulls in the sale. I just say no. If they pursue it, then I give them my 2 cents worth. It's really hard to watch the thousands of head of terrible cattle sell week after week through our "conventional" system, and see the owners coming into pick up their cheques, complaining about the cattle business. Talk about biting my tongue.

When we go to a sale barn its to watch our steers sale............Not to buy replacements, that includes heifer/bull sales that are getting popular.
good luck
