Mr. nr (in Santa's workshop) working on grandchild's barn. It is just beginning to feel like Christmas time this evening with a howling wind. Nice change from almost 70 degree humidity. Hard to play Santa in a tee shirt.
Was wondering what you creative folks are working on for gifts.

I have a friend of my wifes making dresses, does that count?
Now THAT's an undertaking! How's she going to fit them? What a neat idea for a present. Did you pick out the material and pattern? I guess some men would be good at that but not in our family LOL

I'm getting pretty good at it. I've done it for years. I have always bought them a dress for Christmas (from Daddy) and the last 10 years or so I've started having them made. It's a much better quality dress than I can buy here , it's not from China though the material might be I guess, my friend gets the money, I dont have to shop , and I CAN CONTROL THE NECK AND HEMLINE. The lady picks up fabric she thinks I'll like and emails me the choices . I pick and she makes.

That's the truth- it is hard to get modest clothing. The word itself seems to be obsolete. I wonder if the pendulum will ever swing back?

They each have several dresses. Now that they're getting older, I'm trying to get my wife to cut those old dresses up and make them each a quilt out of them. I think it'd be a nice keepsake for them. She just wants to give them the dresses. I'll win out eventually. I have enjoied doing it every year. My box to them is the first one they open every year. I have wondered though if they ever got a dress they didn't like. They never said they did but you'd think they would have got at least one. They all wore them with pride though if they did. Good bunch of girls.

I hope they do a quilt. Perhaps the woman who makes the dresses could pass on a few of the scraps to you as well.

My daughter and I worked on a quilt once using scraps from sewing projects and some of her play clothing. The squares were actually made to look like flowers with raised petals, not the traditional flat type of quilt. We even embroidered in some hidden messages in the centers where the petals hid the message. One said, "Help! I'm being held captive in a blanket factory!" lol
The actual finished quilt wasn't so successful- I lost patience with the quilting process and it was lumpy. Never did one since then. But our daughter has just started quilting again and has me taping a quilting show off the tv for her every morning. She seems to have the patience which she obviously didn't get from me.
