We've lost Don Thompson...

We're branding our next-to-the-last batch today and since I just got sent to the house to scare up some dinner for the crew, I'll take a minute to tell you about the loss of a very special guy to those of us in Harding County.

Don Thompson died Thursday after a long battle with cancer. Don was a great guy and ranched here all his life. He is the grandfather of the young man, koj, who posts on ranchers.net, and an uncle of Jim Thompson of "Down the Road" fame. Don is also a relative of Tap's and he leaves a very large extended family to mourn his loss.

I'd like to be the first to offer my sympathy to all of Don's family.

Yes Liberty Belle, Don was a very good person. I never really heard him complain much about his health problems, except he just wanted to feel good again. Chemo is very hard on people I guess.

Don was my uncle, his wife is my mothers sister. They were our neighbors my whole life, except the last years that they lived in town. They ranched on part of my grandfathers ranch, and I can't remember them not being in our lives around here. He was a friend of about everyone, and was an all around good guy.

My sympathy to koj and their very large family.

Tap- Our condolences to you and koj and families-- I never met the man, but am sure he must have been all or more than what you portrayed...

Seems like half of what I do anymore is attend funerals of all the oldtimer friends I have ......I guess its just part of the continual changing of the guard......

Our thoughts are with you and your family, Tap. When those
'special people' pass away, there is quite an empty space where they should be.

Try to remember you were blessed with knowing him as long as you
did.

Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers. The funeral was pretty big. The family procession took nearly 10 minutes. Grampa sure did have a lot of friends. I didn't get to visit with you LB, but thanks for coming. It was good to visit with you Tap. Maybe I will be able to see you again this summer.
