WH fingerprints on UK banning Savage?

I don't believe for a minute that the United Kingdom decided to ban entry to U.S. talk-radio star Michael Savage on its own initiative.

First of all, Savage was not asking to enter the U.K.

Second of all, while Savage is a big fish in the U.S., his program is not widely known across the pond.

What would possess Home Secretary Jacqui Smith to single out Savage on a short list of 16 people worldwide who would not be welcome?

I think I know the answer.

But first, you have to understand the backdrop to this story.

Barack Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress are conducting a scorched-earth war on the First Amendment. The Federal Communications Commission will soon be headed and controlled by an appointee who thinks government, not the free market, should control broadcast programming. The appointee to be regulatory czar for the administration has flirted with ideas like a "Fairness Doctrine" for the Internet and mandatory 24-hour, cooling-off periods before sending angry e-mails. As we speak, local "commissar commissions" are being established in every radio market to monitor programming and challenge broadcast licenses on the basis of content. Hate-crimes legislation has passed the House and is headed for the Senate – a bill that would punish thoughts and speech and provide, for the first time, special protections to a new "victim class" of pedophiles.

There is little question for any serious and objective observer that the new Washington power structure is targeting the most significant voice of dissent left in America – talk radio.

I believe with near 100 percent certainty, though I admit I can't prove it, that the initiative for this symbolic effort to ban Michael Savage from a country he had no intention of visiting came not from London, but from Washington.

Savage commands the third-largest audience of all talk shows in the country. He is also the most critical of Obama and the Democrat-dominated Congress. He is the edgiest. He pushes the envelope. He has been falsely accused of being a "hater" and engaging in "hate speech" plenty of times.

That's why he was the perfect target for a pre-emptive and insidious attack on his character. Here's the way I imagine it going down.

Someone in Washington with good connections to the socialist government in the U.K. made a call one day.

"Listen, you could really help us out there," that someone likely said. "We've got this talk-show host who is really poisoning the minds of the American people – saying unspeakable things about our president and other officials in Washington. Next time you put out a list of people unwelcome in the U.K., why don't you include this guy? His name is Michael Savage."

It was an easy favor for Jacqui Smith to fulfill.

She has a long track record of hating free speech, embracing the fascist code of "political correctness" and promoting Big Brother ideas and regulations.

How would this help Savage's foes in Washington?

When they up the ante in their campaign against talk radio, it will be Savage they point to as an example of all that is dangerous and irresponsible on the broadcast airwaves.

"Look," they'll say, "this guy spews so much hatred, the U.K. banned him from even visiting the country. Our greatest ally in Europe won't even allow him entry into the country. It is just plain wrong to allow people like this unfettered access to the public airwaves."

That's the game plan.

Mark my words.

And this move will, once again, have a "chilling effect" on other hosts, on other radio programs, on syndicators, on radio stations that air controversial talk.

Like Savage or hate him – and I like him – it's time for all people of conscience and goodwill to stand behind him and his right to air his views, views that represent many millions of Americans.

If we don't all hang together, as they say, we'll all hang separately.

look at the whole list of sixteen people banned and you'll see it was very evenhanded in keeping out extremists of all kinds.

You'd be surprised at the number of people looking to move to the more stable Central American countries where they have less expensive property, good climates, and the cost of living, in general, is much cheaper.

I have a good buddy that is a pilot for an Air Charter Service and they are making about two trips per week down there now. For just that reason.

Wonder if Macon is enjoying himself down there? :wink:

While I have not seen the list, something is rotten in Denmark (sure to offend someone with that) as the Brits harbour all sorts of hate speakers.

In fact some of the most vile muslim hate speakers in Europe are located in the UK.

Funny how a person from an allied country who in fact has SUPPORTED the Brits in their battle on terrorism is banned - yet folks from the "nice, warm, friendly and religiously liberal sand box countries" pretty much come and go as they see fit.

As I said before - something is not right here and I am in the UK on a regular basis.

I would bet the herd bull that there is far more to this - on a political basis - than meets the eye.

Might start looking at home at the people who have sort of handed the Brits a bit of a chip off the shoulder and an ice cold reception.

The Brits tend to have a fairly long memory when it comes to slights.

BC, you are correct. There is more to this. Michael Savage along with a group of other Americans are behind the lawsuit against the DHS right wing extremism report.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on behalf of nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show host, Michael Savage, Gregg Cunningham (President of the pro-life organization Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Inc. (CBR)), and Iraqi War Marine veteran Kevin Murray. The Law Center claims that Napolitano’s Department (DHS) has violated the First and Fifth Amendment Constitutional rights of these three plaintiffs by attempting to chill their free speech, expressive association, and equal protection rights. The lawsuit further claims that the Department of Homeland Security encourages law enforcement officers throughout the nation to target and report citizens to federal officials as suspicious rightwing extremists and potential terrorists because of their political beliefs.

The Brits have the right to ban Michael Weiner ("Savage's real name). Why's no one complaining because they banned Don Black?

Mikey Weiner (don't you like that name!) insults and preaches hate on his show. The Brits have simply said they don't want "that kind" in their country. He's now threatening to sue the British government to get his name off the list. With his ilk, no publicity is bad publicity. But he's not going to win a lawsuit because it's their country and their laws. They do not have the Freedom of Speech that we have here in the US.

Who is on UK 'least wanted' list?

Sixteen people banned from entering the UK since October last year for fostering extremism or hatred have been named by the Home Office for the first time.

A total of 22 people have been excluded in that time, although the identities of six of them have been withheld by the government in the "public interest". The named individuals are:

The 79-year-old and his daughter are barred for their anti-gay comments. Both have picketed the funerals of Aids victims and have claimed the deaths of American soldiers are a punishment for US tolerance of homosexuality.

SAMIR AL QUNTAR

Hezbollah militant. Spent three decades in prison for killing four soldiers and a four-year-old girl.

Considered to be engaging in unacceptable behaviour by seeking to foment, justify or glorify terrorist violence in furtherance of particular beliefs and to provoke others to terrorist acts.

ARTUR RYNO & RAVEL SKACHEVSKY

Leaders of a violent Russian skinhead gang that beat migrants and posted films of their attacks on the internet, and committed 20 racially motivated murders.

Considered to be engaging in unacceptable behaviour by fomenting serious criminal activity and seeking to provoke others to serious criminal acts.

Both are currently in prison.

AMIR SIDDIQUE

Preacher. Considered to be engaging in unacceptable behaviour by fomenting terrorist violence in furtherance of particular beliefs.

MICHAEL ALAN WEINER (ALSO KNOWN AS MICHAEL SAVAGE)

Controversial daily radio talk-show host. Considered to be engaging in unacceptable behaviour by seeking to provoke others to serious criminal acts and fostering hatred which might lead to inter-community violence.

His views on immigration, Islam, rape and autism have caused great offence in the US.

If you want to sit back and watch liberals criminalize free speech and conservative thought on terrorism and crime, by all means go for it.

As for it being a strictly UK trend, you better look around you. The US is about to be governed in the same manner.

Think Hate Crimes bill, DHS reports and demonizing anyone that disagrees with your leader. DHS just sent out another report, no where in it does it denounce radical islamists/terrorists. (and they do exist in the US)

Savage is well known for his provocative in your face style, frequently done as a sort of verbal assault on liberals, illegals and Islamic extremism. But, he has never advocated violence toward anyone. Sure, he's called those in his cross hairs, islamofacists, morons, race baiters, criminals and fools. He's mocked them relentlessly, but he has never crossed the line to threaten the welfare of anyone as far as I know.

Savage was recently sued by CAIR, an Islamic group based in the US for his rebuking of Islamic organizations he said were nothing but fronts for funneling money to terrorists. In the past Savage has called the Holy Koran a book of hate and said the values of the Nation of Islam are wholly inconsistent with a free republic

The report, released in March and recalled within hours, was on top of a controversial document the same office produced last month that said U.S. veterans were ripe for recruitment by terrorist groups.

The definitions are rather broad and apparently raised flags within the department.

Mighty wide brush you are using there. I never told anyone to move. This is your country as well and there are ways to CHANGE things if you dont like the way things are going.

I never heard of Block until today - I just have to chuckle about their reasonings behind this - have you ever heard the stuff that spews out of Brit mosques? Amazing.

I agree that any country has the right to refuse admittance to any person they want - and I have stated that many times - we have one up in Canada you have banned - but he is a bit of a trouble maker who did a little time in Syria - another story for another time.

Had a chuckle about the publicity thing.

In fact he probably picked up a bunch of foreign listeners due to the Brits - more money for Savage. Love him or hate him - he does have a following.

Savage is harmless.

I am sure in some cases they are not so harmless.
