What a good life

So after ive gone through some tuff times in the past week. It has finally warmed up a bit and calving is going good. I was on the four wheeler checking cows today and just sat out in middle of the pasture and watched all the calves suck. Its sure easy to forget about the bad weather the past couple of weeks. Out looking at calves today i was thinking, this is such a great life. Not being in a town, being out in your own little world and you doing your own thing. If only all kids would have the experience to grow up on a farm. I was at a very high level of frustration last week and thought many times, why even have cows? Cows are a part of me and I am excited for the upcoming years beings i think the cattle and grain markets are going to be favorable for a few years at least. I want to thank whoever wrote some words of wisdom to me because it really helped. I would get down and then id read some words of encouragement on here and i would bounce back up again. Thank you all!!

See! See!

I tried to tell you people to quit encouraging these younger folks, so they would get disgusted and quit before they were hooked, but , oh no, you just had to go on and on about how it was going to get better.

I hope you are all happy. Got the poor kid hooked!

Enablers!

Glad things are looking up for you, tlakota. It is fun to just shut off the pickup and walk among the cattle, doing nothing but observe and enjoy them. A person needs to do that once in a while to gain perspective and realize why he does this for a livelihood. It's fun to watch the little calves get big. It's plumb enjoyable to watch a nice bunch of calves go through a sale barn and think, "Hey, those are my calves. I watched them grow up."

It is especially fun watching your favorite heifer calves get kept as replacements, and become producing cows in your herd. There is something about keeping your own heifers and doing this, that is just way more satisfying than buying cows that someone else raised.

Keep enjoying the good parts, tlakota, and endure through the harder times. As the old saying goes, "It's a great life if you don't weaken." :)
