Apparently our great friends and neighbours to the south are considering giving us a present at their own expense! To think they care that much about our safety is heart warming!

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) agency suggests erecting fences along parts of the Canadian-U.S. border might be one way to keep terrorists and criminals out in future, reports the Canadian Press.

"Selective fencing" is one of the various security-enhancement options proposed in a draft report by the agency that was released two weeks ago. Other suggestions in the report include upgrading border-patrol checkpoints and using technology like cameras, radars and scanners to beef up security.

The report stresses the proposed fencing would be nowhere near as extensive as the fencing that currently divides the border between the U.S. and Mexico, at one point stating: "it is unlikely that fencing will play as prominent a role on the Northern Border, given the length of the border and the variability of the terrain."

They are watching the wrong hen-house, IMO.
A fence on our nothern border, yessir, that's just what we
need to spend money on.
There has to be a better way to spend $$$.

On another note:

One of our truckers was going to Canada fishing a week or so
ago. His son had a DUI 15 years ago. These guys had gone
fishing in Canada every year for the past 15 years. This year
they got turned back at the border. Couldn't get in because that
DUI is a felony in Canada. These fellows were taken totally
by surprise. They'd been fishing in Canada every year with
no problem getting in the country.

The next day they tried another port of entry. Nope. Couldn't go.
And they were told they could be arrested for trying to get in
after being refused entry at another port.

Then to top it all off, going back, USA customs practically made them strip
down to get back into the USA....

Fencing along parkway's Great Egg Harbor bridges designed to deter terrorists

The fencing is designed to keep people away from the twin Great Egg Harbor Bay bridges just south of the Great Egg toll booth, authority spokesman Tom Feeney said.

The southern section of the parkway has large, but rarely used, variable message boards along with traffic cameras tied into the authority's Traffic Management Center in Woodbridge, Feeney said.

if you look at the picture you can see that motorists have access to one side of the fence.. on the other side is a marsh, and a harbor,.. both sides are easily accessible..

it is now becoming the biggest local joke.. thank you for the "protected marsh"..

the only thing they really stopped was the local fisherman who used to walk out to the old sunken barge and fish... now they have to drive to the other side and fish.. or take a boat ,

and we have these big huge electronic signs as well.. someday we will see them lit up.... (they were unable to get them to work for the Irene evacuation)


also not noted in the article, but they may not have enough money to actually pay for all the chain link fencing to hang on the posts..
