From the new york times. So it must be true. :lol2:

How can we fight this kind of money without each and every one of us supporting this war? The anti-war bunch here at home has done nothing but breathe life into these bastards. :x

U.S. Finds Iraq Insurgency Has Funds to Sustain Itself

"BAGHDAD, Nov. 25 — The insurgency in Iraq is now self-sustaining financially, raising tens of millions of dollars a year from oil smuggling, kidnapping, counterfeiting, connivance by corrupt Islamic charities and other crimes that the Iraqi government and its American patrons have been largely unable to prevent, a classified United States government report has concluded.

"The report, obtained by The New York Times, estimates that groups responsible for many insurgent and terrorist attacks are raising $70 million to $200 million a year from illegal activities. It says $25 million to $100 million of that comes from oil smuggling and other criminal activity involving the state-owned oil industry, aided by “corrupt and complicit” Iraqi officials.

"As much as $36 million a year comes from ransoms paid for hundreds of kidnap victims, the report says. It estimates that unnamed foreign governments — previously identified by American officials as including France and Italy — paid $30 million in ransom last year........"

(I split the link up because it was so long. Copy and paste it.)

You keep up that shrewd, sneaky, conniving act, and you might get to be a US Senator from New York when you grow up.

Whats new- the UN's been doing that for years...Remember the oil for food scandal- which they haven't charged anyone with (diplomatic immunity BS and political whitewash)...Whatever happened to the Canadian gal that was right in the middle of it? Probably an ambassador to Switzerland now, so she can count her money daily...

No question that there's a lot to be learned from Halliburton, don. Do you know who this is?

This is Erle Halliburton. Erle was kind of a misfit...had trouble holding down a job after he was discharged from the Navy. He had trouble holding down a job because he had an idea, don. He had an idea that he could cement oil wells better than anybody he had ever worked for.

He was finally able to start up the New Method Oil Well Cementing Company in 1919. His "new method" ended up working pretty good, don. In 1920 he reorganized and changed the name to the Halliburton Oil Well Cementing Company and moved to Duncan.

Life in the oilpatch was hell back then, don. "We will get there, somehow," was one of the first company slogans. That's because it was tough getting to locations in those days, but they didn't ever stop trying until they got there. Even up into the 1960's, a lot of Halliburton upper management were guys that had started out as truck drivers. Guys that could "get there".

Halliburton is a great success story, don. They're not just a greedy, inanimate object. Halliburton is the American dream come true. I get tired of hearing liberal assholes like you running them down.

That is so true, Oldtimer. The UN is dirty to the bone. I thought we had a chance to clean it up some with John Bolton in there. Too bad the dems are going to be sure to get rid of him now.

No one person can clean that place up...Best thing would be to drop them like a rock- kick all their spy/thieves out...Worthless organization that just keeps living off US money/blood.....

It would have been better yet if the 9/11 planes would have missed their target- and hit that UN building instead...

Yep---I think I just found where some of our $8 Trillion national debt went...
Forbes.com says that Halliburtons CEO David J Lesar was paid $29.8 million wages last year and $59.87 million in the last 5 years along with $53.1 million worth of company shares...
Bet old Erle never saw money like that....

Don't let them bug you don-- This new neo conservative thinking that the corporate world can do no wrong- and that government should allow them to rip off the US taxpayer is nothing like the true conservatism of old...Even the conservative John Birch Society have come out against GW and many of the socalled conservative Repubs that are/were in Congress, because of their selling out of our country to big multinational corporate interests ...

Yep- Always said that if it hadn't been for the border issue/Canadian captive supply issue, probably a majority of Canadian producers would be sympathetic to R-CALF-- because from what I've seen when up there they were/are getting a bigger hosing by the Big Multinational Corporations at times than even producers are down here....But thats why they fought so hard for NAFTA so they could use the differing laws/rules/ countries/ lawmakers to benefit themselves :(

This new neo conservative thinking that the corporate world can do no wrong-

I think you got this twisted around. Conservatives can look at the good and bad in things. Liberals believe that all the corporate world can do is wrong.

A conservative would realize that there is bad corporations. And then also realize that a strong aggressive corporation is good for the economy, have you ever known a Big Corporation that has no employees? People get jobs because corporations stimulate the economy and create a place for them to work.

Plus if you added up the charity that is given from big corporations and the elite that own and run them. The good they do with their money far out ways any good middle to lower income people ever accomplish. \

Liberals just can not handle the fact that some people work hard dedicate their lives to building a business. They want the money redistributed amongst the lazy and unmotivated.

Even the bible says you do not work you do not eat!
