Launched with great fanfare in the spring of 2004, Air America was meant to be the liberal answer to right-wing talk radio, to counter its message and emulate its political impact and financial success. But despite abundant publicity and an impressive roster of on-air talent, Air America’s ratings never came anywhere near those of right-wing
To make matters worse, the network was beset by a raft of off-air problems almost from its inception: a charity-loan scandal, contract disputes with affiliates and employees, continual changes in ownership and management, and a 2006 bankruptcy.
The network’s trouble began two weeks after its April Fool’s Day launch, when it was yanked off the air in Los Angeles and Chicago due to financial disputes. It turned out lead investor Evan Cohen had far less money than he claimed, and some of Air America’s checks had bounced. (Cohen was arrested on unrelated theft and money laundering charges last May.) Air America eventually got new investors—a series of them, actually—but it never managed to get a wide enough reach or a big enough audience
To this point, Air America has been kept afloat thanks to deep-pocketed liberals willing to accept massive losses
Isn't that the same radio station that in order to survive stole money that was suppose to go to the Boy Scouts?
oh well I guess they can force thru the fairness doctrine and force profitable stations to carry their loser shows..
and there is still NPR, the liberal radio that gets a $260 million dollar subsidy.. and as non - profits, they can lose money every year as they do not have to compete fairly..
