What is love?

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?"

The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:
-------------------------------------------------------------

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore.

So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love."
Rebecca- age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different.

You just know that your name is safe in their mouth."
Billy - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other."
Karl - age 5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs."
Chrissy - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."
Terri - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."
Danny - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more.
My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss"
Emily - age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen."
Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."
Noelle - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well."
Tommy - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling.

He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore."
Cindy - age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"My mommy loves me more than anybody .

You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night."
Clare - age 6

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken."
Elaine-age 5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Brad Pitt."
Chris - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day."
Mary Ann - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones."
Lauren - age 4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." (what an image)
Karen - age 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget."
Jessica - age 8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge.

The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.

Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said,

"Nothing, I just helped him cry"

Love is knowing when you cant fix a hurt someone has and having the courage to walk away for thier benifit. Putting their needs above your own.

It Sounds Like There's A Story Here that is none of our business but I'd like to hear non-the-less.

I tend to see Courage where others don't seem to look for it!

LOVE..has always been a wonder to me. It amazes me to see the ones that do not know what real love is. They see it as a thing instead of being something you FEEL so deep that it causes pain when the one you love is hurting. I see ones that marry for the word instead of the MEANING!! I see people use the WORD in a term as if its just that a Word! Yes I wonder at times if I will ever find that TRUE LOVE again!! But, I do know what it means...and when I had it, I would die for that person and almost did. Some sling the word around and use the person they claim to LOVE!!
Those people have no Heart, and to me there is something wrong when you do not admit that the love isnt there and just use the person you are with for the ever lasting $$. Love should make you smile every morning when you wake and look at the person you are with!

I see LOVE with friends and family. With my friends I put their needs at times before my own, and will do whatever I can to help with their pain! I go out of my way to see a smile from all that I love!! I never try or would cause pain on purpose. Sometimes you have to give even that friend room to LOVE, and they will in turn come back and give what you give right back to YOU! The word LOVE is so important to have that it should be shared with everyone around you.

Can not tell I really ponder the word can you??;) I want that LOVE someday and I will wait till it is the right person. Never settle with someone that does not make you smile!

Real Love???

Is to be able to work with your spouse without killing him/her. You get to that point, you are pretty good friends.

To work as a "TEAM" and it's not "just about me"

Let me get through today and Saturday and give the saga some deep thought as to how it needs to be said.

True love is Unconditional!!!
To work as a "TEAM" and it's not "just about me"

So ladies your saying that you put the other person first and not tell them who or what they can talk about? You love them without threats of stopping if they dont stop doing something most people do in everyday life?
You support and defend that person before anyone else?

It took me awhile to realize that TRUE love means really accepting the person you fell in love with with all of his/her "faults".....even years later, they are really still the person you fell for...only a little older, a little wiser!! The truth lies in the fact that they still love YOU for all of YOUR faults, too!!!  (you know, the baby weight you still have to lose; the grey hair(s); the inability to grow the garden that mama had; the messy house; the fact that he swears that it is YOU that snores at night-----don't think so  )!! However, I simply love how kids view love...simple, honest and true...no frills attached! And yes, my smelly/sweaty/cow manure covered cowboy is still handsomer than Brad Pitt!!

One of the best songs I've ever heard that wraps love up, is Eddy Montgomery and T-roy Gentry singing, "She Don't Tell Me To."

Every now and then on my way home,
I stop at a spot where the wildflowers grow,
And I pick a few, but she don't tell me to.

And I go out with my boys alright,
But most of the time I call it a night,
Before they do, but she don't tell me to.

Sunday mornin', I'm in church,
And my butt and my back and my neck-tie hurt,
When I'm in the pew, but she don't tell me to.

Chorus
Any other woman I know woulda tried to control me and it would be over,
Just blame it on this 'goin' my own way' attitude.
But all of that stubbornness melts away when I wake with her head on my shoulder,
And I know I've got to love her,
Until my life is through, but she don't tell me to.

Now I've got demons and I've got pride,
But most of the time I apologize,
Like she's mine to lose, but she don't tell me to.

And I've got dreams in this heart of mine,
But nothin' that I wouldn't lay aside,
If she asked me to, but she don't tell me to.

Chorus
Any other woman I know woulda tried to control me and it would be over,
Just blame it on this 'goin' my own way' attitude.
But all of that stubbornness melts away when I wake with her head on my shoulder.
And I know I've got to love her,
Until my life is through,
What else can I do, What else can I do,
Lord I love her, but she don't tell me to.

Every now and then on my way home,
I stop at a spot where the wildflowers grow,
And I pick a few, yes I do.

My favorite line in that song, is "...most of the time I apologize, like she's mine to lose...". That's love. Not even having to bite your tongue, just feeling it in your gut that those little things are so meaningless in comparison to the love you feel for one another, that you just drop it, then grin and giggle about how silly it is. I used to fight over anything and nothing with just about anyone, man or woman. Now I wake up to a woman who wakes up to me just starin' at her, and I tell her every day how much I love her and how lucky I am to have her.

Sappy, yes. Whipped, sure I am. But if I die tomorrow, my family will never second guess how I felt. I know that feeling, and I learnt from it.
