There is a saying that I still hear from time to time and as I read Steve's words from another post it made me stop and wonder....

Steve wrote:
is there any thing wrong with sacrificing to get what we need?

So i have decided to go to those who may know and ask the question..........."what is the American Dream"

I am not trying to stir anything up,its a honest question for those that feel they can answer it .......

There is no "American Dream." Every individual has a dream. Mine might not be yours; yours might not be mine. In this country, we all have the right to our own dream and the freedom to work toward that dream.

I think for each person the "American Dream" holds a different dream. For some material possessions and wealth are the desire they hope to obtain in order to make this "American Dream." For others it is enough food on the table, the freedom of speech, the feeling of safety in our own homes, raising productive happy children that become productive members of society, having a home, and someone to come home to can just as much be the "American dream." A sense of contentment can also be the "American Dream."

Everyone having an opportunity and Freedom work for their goals in life. Some people seem to make it out to be about making money or prosperity.

If your goal is to be financially successful or to live modest simple life The American dream is that you have that freedom and equal resources to do so. It is not money it is about freedom of choice.

"If, as I have said, the things already listed were all we had to contribute, America would have made no distinctive and unique gift to mankind. But there has been also the American dream, that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for every man, with opportunity for each according to his ability or achievement." There is no "American Dream."

that sentiment might explain some of your posts..

While your dream may not be mine.. as Americans, most of US want to see every one have a chance to succeed.. to better themselves... or at least not have to be oppressed..

I want every one to have a chance at the freedom I enjoy... when I look at oppressed countries... and people.. I want them to be free also.. to have our freedom in their country...
