Last Weekend - V_Key and her dog Banjo were out of town - I was working in the yard and Left the Gates to the Barn open

She dropped Banjo off and I was not thinking:( - That night I heard "B" going in and Out his Pet Door - I thought he must be missing "V" - the next day I closed the gates.

Last night "V" called from SJ - "Banjo is acting funny - some of his joints are swollen and his Tummy is Hard and sore" - I had a few more questions

I had been there years before - I told her to take him to a VET - "Tell them He got into the "Rat Poison" I had Hidden around the Barn

She called from the Vets Office - they wanted to do X-rays and (operate?)
I told her not to allow that but to do a (Blood Clouting) test and get a shot of vitamin K...

Yes they wanted to cut-in-to him and she said NO - they took X-rays and other test and kept him over Night

At 7am they called me and said it was OK for her to pick-him-up and that she should take him to her Local Vet for check-up No Vitamin K Pill but a nice Bill of $3000.

I have the Poison in containers and hidden in the barn
I think I'll buy a Shock Collar - Scatter some poison Blocks around - and ZAP him if he goes near them.

The other dogs can't - don't get to it...

I can buy a dam good collar for $3000

Geez Louise! With x rays, lab work and an overnight stay, I would expect it to be expensive but that is ridiculous. $500 tops.

Will there be any other after-effects from the poison, or is it something that will quickly work it's way out of the system? Sounds like a close call for a young lady and the dog that she loves. Whew!

That's why the bill was so high and small animal vets do so well!

Banjo is home but not out of the woods yet. Rat poison has some long acting effects - he has a 2PM appointment with a local vet. to check his "Clouting Time" and also has 45 days worth of 2 pills per day - then more test.

The SJ Vet was impressed that "V" knew so much about Animals - Meds. and Banjo's History...
They required a $2500 deposit on a $3000 bill from her to start - when she picked Banjo up she told them that she thought that was High - in that she TOLD them what was wrong and that saved other test. Ending story they gave her $500 back...

The Vet also said that almost all the RP cases he see are from South County's _ Ag Area

This was an Emergency Only 24/7 Clinic in San Jose - they did give her a CD with Copy of X-Rays and all treatment to Date.
They were very Professional.

DAM DOG - V_Key just Found him out side with a bag of Ground Squirrel Bate he found somewhere - he had it scattered all over the yard - she has the shopvac out there now Vacuuming the gravel:(

"V" and I both thought this yard was safe.

She checked the area where he poops - his dropping are full of GSP:(

He seems to have a nose for trouble lately!

We went through that with a Jack Russel one time but it sure didn't cost us nearly that much. But it is kinda amazing how much we spend on our four-footed friends.

Banjo went to a Vet in Hollister Today - He repeated the same test as over the week-end - There $2000 - here He charged Total $180 = $80 of that was for the same drug SJ charged her $280 for

Banjo seems OK for now - even jumped into the car!

I agree. 100%.

Especially since I worked at a vet clinic and know just how much vitamin K costs! It's sure a good thing she stopped the surgery. It would have killed him as soon as they opened him up. There is no way they would have been able to stop the bleeding.

My brother took his Basset Hound (who would eat anything smaller than him, no matter what it was) to a vet in the city when he developed diarrhea. Rather than give him a bland diet, and some meds, which is what most would have done, they went straight to surgery. The dog died. They recommended cremation immediately, and my brother was too upset to question it. I was absolutely livid. There was no way to find out what was the real problem. To top it off, he got a bill for thousands as well. Now he takes his new dog to the rural vet who lives closest to his summer cottage.

I would walk away from any vet who did not recommend conservative treatment as a first resort, unless it was an obvious emergency.

You did well.

The first Vet giving her $500 bucks back is a basic agreement that they took advantage of her in billing her so much! Which calls into question the entire bill since part of it was dishonest! Call the Better Buisness people or the state license division and complain.

I was at the FFA school farm and saw a Project cow who had calved the day before - One Look and I said she had "Milk Fever" - and I got hit with -
"Oh No - The Vet said she was torn-up-in-side having the calf!"

I said "I've sen a lot of Milk Fever and that Looks like it to me and the shot cost like $2."

A day later the cow was dead - the calf 2 days later...
I saw the Tallow Truck pick the cow up.

The next day Doctor Seals all 6'7" of him came after me for Second Guessing Him - - I took note of where his Balls were (just in case) and said -
I didn't know you where the Vet and I was EXPRESSING MY OPINION.

2 days later SEALS delivered me a LETTER from Davis Vet School that confirmed His Findings

That same day I saw my friend that drives the Tallow Truck - he said that he had taken the cow straight to the Tallow Co.

I Faxed a copy of the letter to Davis and found they did not know of it.
The next day I took what I knew to my friend who owned the Vet Clinic.
Davis had already contacted him.

Dr Bill Seals was gone the next day

Anyone can make a mistake but the attempt to comer-up

I still have copied of all the facts.

So you can't trick an old dog either, you're saying?

One of my jobs in my younger days was to Ride The Feed Lot looking for ailing Livestock and seeing that they got Doctored...

< Won't say that I can't be fooled but I've been around >

Note:
Banjo has to be on Victim K Pills for 30 Days -

I know from the past that the effects from Rat / Squirrel Bate (poison) are longlasting - you may need to monitor blood work for Months
