While I appreciate you trying to educate me--- It was much different deal than the other makers took though agreed a handout is a hand out- in fact there was no way to compete if they didn't influx cash to keep up adn ahead of the others.-- I'll still take my 7.3 against anything else wish I could get a new one--- chevy for ride- dodge to keep you afoot and ford for the tough work---- Thanks for the welcome.

I made this brag to Soapweed, and I'll make it to anyone else. I'll haul a load of critters to the salebarn for you. We load the same number of critters, and both have full fuel tanks. If I can't walk away from your 7.3, and burn less fuel getting there, you got a load of critters hauled for free.
I'll even make that brag against Soaps new pickup.

I am a Ford man, but am thinking about converting a 6.0 to a cummins.... Dodge front end problems are a pain for me,

I still have an old 1996 F-250 with the 7.3 Liter Powerstroke. A neighbor has a newer F-350 with the 6.0 but borrows my 250 when he has a heavy trailer haul.

The EPA forced Ford to discontinue the 7.3L because that Navistar engine did not fit emissions standards.

A few years back Ford was a major owner in the Cummins Corp...............

I have a 95 dodge cummins with 489,000 miles. Still runs good. Have a 04 dodge cummins that has 200,000 miles and hasn't been unhooked from a gooseneck or seen an oiled road yet. I've had fords but their diesels are junk. Good pickups junk motors. You can't beat a Cummins.

It tickles me to see all the posts by those infected with the Dreaded Dodge Disease, yet Ford is beating them in the poll by a 2 to 1 margin! LMAO!

And yes, I have the dreaded 6.0 Stroke in my 03 F550. It goes almost every day in all conditions, under load. If it laid down tomorrow, there is somebody, somewhere, that could drop a CAT or a Detroit diesel in it. No Cum-Aparts for me.

We drove nothing but Fords from 1967 (man, that 1967 was one good pickup--352 engine and 456 gear ratio) til 1998, when we bought the first Dodge Cummins. We felt like traitors to Ford.

Since that first 1997 Dodge 1-ton Dually 4x4 (we bought it used--and it was a great pickup) we have had a 2002, 2006, and now a 2011. Our pickup never goes out of here without pulling something or without a load on it. This last pickup has an automatic transmission, which I never thought Mr. FH would ever buy.......but he likes it.........a lot. We took a 28' camper trailer down the Big Horn mountains into Buffalo and he was very
pleased with how it held the trailer back going down that steep grade.
He has always added the exhaust brake to them, but the 2011 had it
as part of the package.

Our nephew put on the Smarty Jr, and though we haven't given it a real test, the one time Mr. FH took it on the road it did get 18 mpg. That was quite an increase. We can live with that. He has stacks on it (Mr. FH really pimps up his pickups  ) and when our grandson did the test drive, he made me look at the smoke coming out of the stacks. It wouldn't do that before. Don't want to say too much........ :D in case we are being watched....... :p

I love my '01 Dodge 1 ton 4x4 dually!... :D I followed one to work about every morning for a couple years before I was able to get one. Man, I wanted one real bad! 10 years later, I still find myself sitting and looking at! I'm going to go look at it now... :D

I have '99 and '01 Ford F-350's both with 7.3 diesels and 6 speed manuals. Both have been very good to me. I have a '06 Dodge with 5.9 Cummins and 6 spd manual. The Fords get better mileage than the Dodge, the Dodge has more power. The per mile cost on the Dodge got a little expensive when I had to spend $3800 on new injectors at 63,000 miles. Prior to these I had '78 and '85 Fords that were good pickups.

my everyday ranch pickup is an 06 ford f-350, V-10. it doesn't have a ton of power, but it has enough. our "goin to town" pickup is an 03 ford f-350 with the 7.3. it doesn't have a ton of power, but it has enough.

We drive mostly gmc or Chevy vehicles, dad has a 04' dodge that pulls like crazy but rides like a dump truck. All these brands are so over rated and over priced. They are starting to prices for all those city slickers and hobby farms. And sorry but I need to vent something that drives me crazy when talking about pickups. Can we stop calling them trucks! THEY are pickups, trucks are 18 wheelers not Chevy, ford or dodge 1/2 ton's pickups. Sorry can't stand that!

got to Salina yesterday, and I have been tossing the idea of trading pickups around...looked at Ford, liked what I saw but a bit unhappy with the mileage I get from my 08...only 12-14 mpg.... neighbor has a new Dodge, getting 20-22 mpg.... several features on it that I REALLY like !! but very hard to leave my Ford

Jigs if you haven't taken off all the Emissions crap on that 08 and its a 6.4 diesel, get rid of it before you start dumping in the money. The 6.4's can have more issues than the 6.0's if you don't take that crap off. Just my opinion.

I have/had fords 84,87,89,95,03 and an 09 my two last trucks are gas as my wife hates diesel pickups and she's a major contributor here. Our livestock salesbarn is a 12 mile haul from my north place so speed and power are not a real issue for me. My daily driver is a 97 ford escort it's pretty ruff but economical..

Had a few chevy pickups when I was younger and have an 84 chevy here that's Lanes high school chick getter when he gets there I like it also. You know big tires loud pipes etc etc.

Never owned a dodge but I'd drive one just never had one around when I've been shopping.

92 Ford 7.3 is our go to get erdone pickup. Had a 09 f150 that the rear axle housing broke and it shifted rough so we got rid of it with 73000 miles.. Never even saw it on the lot.. Or anyone else.. Prolly went to an auto auction... Have a ford ranger that both sons have driven to school with over 200,000 on it and have only changed the water pump on it... Step side with graphics, a real chick magnet. Like our Dodge 03 pickup bought with lots of miles, Prolly my favorite. Son has a dodge with cummins that he loves, we bought it for him when he graduated valivictorian(sp) of his class.... Thankfully we got him out of looking at mustangs... He did buy a chevy cruise his senior year that he likes... To small for me thou..... I have a fj cruiser(yota) that I simply love.. Handles the miles of gravel and sits high enough to go over the ruts in the road. Don't think I would even look at a ford or chevy... JMHO..

The biggest problem I ever had pulling with my Dodge was going through cities... :D People would swarm my trailer like bumble bees, taking pictures of my bulls and would just camp out beside my trailer....I'd miss exits I needed to take.... :D :D :D

This isn't a Dodge is better than anything post, I just miss hauling bulls!... :D I've never pulled anything with a Ford or Chevy diesel. I am of course amazed at the diesel power though, having pulled stuff with all makes of older gas pick-ups. I'd have 10 - 12 bulls, plus or minus a horse if I had to do any picking up, in that 32ft steel trailer and it pulled it with crazy ease. There's 10 bulls and a horse in this pic....Tug and Diesel are behind T-bone. I've never loaded that trailer to the max yet with anything.

R A you are pulling a Gooseneck brand trailer in that picture. We used to see them advertised and thought they looked really tough. Our first
gooseneck (bought in 1973) was a Swan and it was double tough. Had the brush fenders like yours. I was taking our daughter to a rodeo and when I turned to go out to the road, I slid it along a steel pipe that was attached to the yard fence (tall steel pipe and tall fence to keep the deer out of the yard). Mr. FH was watching and thought for sure I dented the side of the trailer. All it did was peel the paint a bit. Lucky for me. :p  :D

Anyhow, we just thought the Gooseneck brand trailers looked like the real deal.

Hang on to that' 01 Dodge. People are looking for them.

Neat picture, BTW. :D

Droe Chevy 350's until 1987 when we bought our first Ford diesel. Drove them until Dec 2011 when i bought an 09 Dodge dually and traded the box for a flatdeck.

They all have their positives and negatives. I just like them when they run.

Faster horses - I love the gooseneck brand trailers! Real tough imo! I hang up plywood in it during winter months for critter warmth. I had a 24ft 1976 one for awhile....sold it shortly after I got this 32' one for more than I paid for it. The '76 still had the original floor in it and I couldn't hardly tear it up, same with this one. My '32 had only been pulled a couples times by previous owners and ran down a post and brought back to the dealer. All it did was dent in the wheel bearing cover deals a little and tear a reflecting sticker some from the looks of it. Still had the little sticking up deals on the tires when I got it.

Yes, I am going to hang on to it!...no plans to ever sell it. I really like it! I'd like to put a flatbed on it, if I ever get to where I can afford to.

Did an older guy come out and meet you at the driveway when you pulled in at the Dodge dealer there? Man they are pushy at Marshall. I always drive through there whenever we are in Salina after dropping off the wife. My little boy loves to look at the Laramie Longhorns and drool and that same old man will pester us every time.
